You know.... it occurred to me, while I was doing another web search for some of the things that people post on VJ, that -- if the police were ever to raid my home and take my hard drive -- they could probably find enough "evidence" to accuse me of an awful lot of stuff. For instance, today's surfing included a search for the differences between rifles and shotguns, and then something on granny bashing. Last week I looked up Ford Escort and was taken to a HUGELY pornographic website. :o:lol:

on that you just coulda asked me.

Oh good. Would you please tell me? I couldn't make hide nor hair of it.

it's all about range and use. test at the end.......

a rifle is pretty much long range, a shotgun is strictly short range.

a rifle for hunting just about anything but birds, a shotgun for birds (in most states it's illegal to use a rifle to hunt migratory birds, like ducks and geese).

a rifle shoots a single bullet, a shotgun primarily shoots a collection of round balls called shot, but it too can shoot a single bullet called a slug.

max effective range (range one can expect to kill something the shooter fires at) for a shotgun is 100 yards, for a rifle it's up to and sometimes over 600 yards. for a shotgun with bird shot, that max effective range is about 50 yards due to loss of velocity.

maximum range (maximum distance the bullet or shot can travel) is even further than that above - for a shotgun, maximum range is about 300 yards, for a rifle the maximum range can be well over a mile.

the caliber of a rifle is measured in mm or inches, for shotguns (with one exception - the .410 bore) is measured in gauge. the larger the number for a rifle the larger the bullet (.22 is smaller than a .270). for shotguns a 12 gauge is larger than a 20 gauge.

as an example, let's take the following animals. a mourning dove, a squirrel or rabbit, a deer, a bear, and a moose.

shotgun with # 7.5 to #9 shot (with shotgun shot, the lower the number the larger it is) for mourning dove, same for squirrel or rabbit or one could use a .22 rifle. for deer, a shotgun with 00 buck (think large balls) or slug (depends on state law if shotgun is allowed and what is to be fired) or one could use a rifle, generally a .30 caliber is the norm. for bear and moose you'd want only a rifle .30 caliber or larger.

I would never actually hunt deer myself. I remember when I was little my dad gutting one on our driveway. It was so disgusting. Now I just reap the benefits of my friend's dad's hunting. He gives me all sorts of goodies.

darn!!!!!

I just was on our health care site and they finally processed the room and board claim from when I was in the hospital for about a week... i was pleasantly surprised when i saw the amount we owed but upon closer inspection I noticed that about 400 dollars wasn't covered by our insurance and I wondered why so I looked closer and that $400 was because they didn't cover the difference between a semi-private room and a private room...

now the thing is I had no choice when it came to a private room.. they just put me in one and I am pretty sure all the rooms in the maternity wing are private rooms... that is soooo not fair
