What's the minimum wage in Manhatten? $20/hr?

It's an average. I wonder if the median wouldn't be more useful. I live in Manhattan and that certainly doesn't look like my neighborhood... Here there are a lot of super-rich and an ever decreasing number of middle-class and below middle-class people. That said, even in my lower-middle-class neighborhood, average 2-BR is $2,500/month. :(

The median, the 25th-75th percentile spread, it would all be useful. But the average being that high, given that we know Manhattan has its share of poor people, is staggering.

Between us - the wife and I clear about $2500-$2600 a month. $2821 a week!? Wow.... Seems there's a very large gap between the top and middle-earners IMO.

And I am hearing rumors that i-bankers are gonna pull in another year of record bonuses... the only people who won't this year will be the fixed income guys (for obvious reasons)...

Well the Donald Trump's of the world do seem to live there... I'm not surprised that folks like that can push up the weekly average earnings that much. It just goes to show that while we're doing passably ok with our modest monthly savings plan, there's a significant gap between us and the folks on Wall Street.

That's like TWO of the 2-BR/2-BA, no-den in my Montgomery County complex.

Does that $2,500 include a W/D (the $1,250 for our complex does)?

It's $2,500 for a shoebox

2500 a month here would get you this.

Those aren't in Manhattan. The people in Manhattan who make the big bucks (and therefore skew the average) tend to be in professions that require you to be in NYC (or London) if you plan to be promoted and do well.

I, OTOH, am not in a job of that type and am duly intrigued by your links :P
