I finally got some information on what I need to bring my cat into the US.

I was having a challenge trying to find out exactly what I needed for my cat to be brought into the US.

I found one web site that said that cats didn't need any vaccination. Then when I talked with someone that lives in Niagara Falls NY they told me something else.

Well I called several Vets in Niagara Falls, Ontario and the last one I called gave me a number to the Customs and Immigration and I got to talk with a Vet at the Border Crossing.

He was very nice and said all my cat needed was a Rabies shot and nothing else.

The phone number is 905-262-5331. I think with this number you can get answers to most questions regarding your move to the USA when crossing the border.

Now all I have to do is get through today and then I am making my way to the border tomorrow.

many Canucks report the POE officials never even look at the paperwork for the animals! I believe normally all that is required is proof of rabies shot! As well your cat food if you bring it, has to be made in the USA, if not they will take it from ya.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I brought my two cats to the USA from the UK and they didn't need a rabies shot to come over. The rabies shot simply had to be done only once I was in my new home. I just took them to the local veterinary practice and had it done there.

There are a few threads in this section dedicated to this, including one with all my information too. A quick search should bring them up.

Does this help?

Importing Pets/Animals

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)
