lawyer necessary?

Hi everybody, I'm brand new to this site, and I'm so glad I found something like this. I'm a US citizen filing for my Bolivian wife. I sent the I-130 application back in August 2007 and still no receipt. However, I'm aware of the delay. I call immigration about once a week just to stay on top of them, even though they seem as clueless as everybody else, however, they tell me that the receipt delay won't affect the processing times. Anyway my first question is (I'm sure there'll be many more) is it necessary to have a lawyer in something like this? Our situation is not out of the ordinary and I don't think we have anything to worry about. But would a lawyer speed up the process? In my opinion no, because it seems like everybody has to just wait, and I believe that is the real problem, the WAITING. If anyone has any feedback on whether it is useful to use a lawyer or not, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I don't think a lawyer is necessary, especially if your case is straightforward. I think, from what I have seen, is a lawyer is really only required when dealing with more complex issues such as prior criminal history or having waivers filed. This site is pretty good and you can either find any information you are looking for or ask a question if you can't find it already. I think having a lawyer actually slows up the process as they seem to act just as a middleman for the correspondence between you and the government.
