"What dreams may come" sounds alot like "Wet dreams may come"

Surprised this one didn't make the list.

I never saw that movie - but I have met Richard Matheson, the author of the book. He's the same guy who wrote the short story that formed the basis of Steven Spielberg's "Duel", and also "I Am Legend", which is being remade as an atrocious Will Smith action vehicle.

They were going to change the title to that but Sam Jackson wouldn't appear in it if they did. Also HUGE blogging background to this film, in the end some of the fans responsible for the blogs managed to get bits refilmed to make Sam Jackson swear more.

I cringed when he was cast in that role. I'm familiar with the book (which if you've not read - you really should, its very good), which has a bit of a cult following so I'm a little biased here, but in no way does Will Smith resemble Robert Neville.

I think what's disappointing about it is that it doesn't seem to be a straight adapation of the novel, but rather a remake of the Charlton Heston movie - The Omega Man (The movie poster even has the exact same tagline as that movie). I liked The Omega Man, but as an adaptation of the novel... not so much... IMO the best thing about this movie is that it will get Matheson's book out to a wider audience that its enjoyed in a long time.

So far the original mive version - "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price seems to be the most faithful to the book, but still far from perfect.

The whole trick with that story is that you have to buy into the total isolation of the main character (that's why the book works pretty well as the novel is a pretty good device for monologuing. Lot harder to do that in a movie without voiceovers); contrary to the movie trailer there's no dog companion in the book outside of a brief traumatic episode mid-way through.

The real thing that turned me off though was the cartoonish, CGI monsters which are also nothing like what is in the book. I can't figure out why they did them that way - when films like 28 Days Later have shown that you can do scary crazy people without resorting to the digital effects.

I'll watch it - but I already have bad memories of Smith's godawful "I, Robot", which I thought was very mediocre. If that is any indication then we can expect:

INT. BEDROOM - DAY

Will Smith wakes up to the sound of a dog barking in the distance. He sits up and looks out the window. The world outside is completely empty.

WILL SMITH

DAMN, THIS IS ONE SERIOUS

HANGOVER.

EXT. STREET - DAY

Will Smith is walking outside. We see nothing but empty buildings, blowing garbage. There is utter silence, and not another person to be seen. Will Smith is utterly alone.

WILL SMITH

YO, WHERE THE PARTY AT?

Will checks his T-MOBILE™ cellular phone. There is no signal.

WILL SMITH

PSHT. "GET MORE MINUTES" MY

BLACK ###!

Will wanders around for a long time. He finds no one else. He is the last man on earth.

WILL SMITH

LAST MAN ON EARTH? DAMN SHAMIQUA,

YOU DONE OWE ME A DATE!

Suddenly a group of shambling VAMPIRES appear from around a corner. They make for Will Smith, groaning with bloodlust.

WILL SMITH

AW HELL NAW!

He kneels down and ties his CONVERSE™ brand shoes.

WILL SMITH

CONVERSE™ DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

Will Smith runs for his life, vampires hot on his heels. He suddenly runs headlong into another pack of vampires. One of them takes a big bite out of his shoulder. He screams like a woman.

WILL SMITH

OH NO YOU DID NOT JUST TAKE

A BIG BITE OUT OF ME!

Will is surrounded by slavering vampires.

WILL SMITH

Y'ALL ARE HAVING A SERIOUSLY

BAD HAIR DAY!

He grabs a CRAFTSMAN™ brand hammer from the ground and begins swinging it wildly.

WILL SMITH

SAY HELLO TO MY FRIENDS SEARS

AND ROEBUCK!

Will caves in a vampire's skull with the hammer.

WILL SMITH

NUTHIN' BUT NET BABY!

He flails about with the hammer, breaking off vampires left and right.

WILL SMITH

VAMPIRES JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!

Will breaks away, but the vampires are in hot pursuit.

WILL SMITH

DAMN, I KNEW I SHOULD'VE TAKEN OUT

THAT LIFE INSURANCE POLICY FROM

PRUDENTIAL™!

Ah, I've never read the book so I can't compare. I'm just viewing the trailer as someone who has no idea of its origins. :D

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Worst. Titles. Ever.

"Gigli" (2003)

French for "box-office bomb." But don't be fooled by the fact that it flopped commercially; the movie really sucks. Obviously, this movie has been handed down to history as this century's "Ishtar" (a movie both underrated and in the running for our worst-title runners-up list), a great big omelet of movie star ego -- specifically the two-headed beast composed of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez -- and scripted by committee. And if there were ever a perfect title for such a misbegotten enterprise, it would have to be "Gigli," a word that sounds like "jeely" and looks like "giggly." The fact that we'd never have known how to pronounce this name if it weren't for Hollywood TV gossip hosts seems perfectly appropriate -- otherwise you'd have to actually see the movie, and no one deserves that.

The best summary I've ever read for this poor excuse of a movie.

I was actually thinking of suing for the return of the price of my ticket - and my precious time spent watching this #######.

did you go to the movies to watch it? I couldn't even stand the trailer

What can I say? Those were still my single days. A chick dragged me into it. She thought it was good. I hated it. Never worked out.
