Well, Pedro saw it and he left. Charity and I see it. Rocio saw it this morning. The other ladies don't see it because they don't come to Off Topic. Maybe you don't see it. But we certainly do.

I'm not talking about Pedro or Charity or anyone else. I'm talking about this thread right now.

Don't you think that your close-ties to Mexico and your fiancee is making you be a little bit oversensitive, defensive & reading things that are not there? Like I said before, I luv ya girl..a.nd I really don't want to offend you. But at the same time, because this is such an emotional topic for you.....do you think that helps or hinders your objectivity?

No one here said 'terrible Mexican' except you. I think that says something. Do you think you're just saying what you feel people are thinking, or are you willing to admit that there's a possibility that you have gotten things a bit wrong by incorrectly inferring something from someone's post. Text sometimes is so hard to determine tone from...it's easy to get things wrong, as I have done on many occassions. Anyone who posts hateful things is dealt with...I've seen it.

For the record, I am anti-illegal Immigrants rights. Not anti-Mexican or anti-any other nationality. I think everyone here is pro-legal-immigration.

Anyways (L) to ya...you know that :)

... constant thread about the terrible Mexicans. Funny, that so many people ...

... that feel offended by discussions regarding illegal immigration are the ones that usually equate "illegal immigrant" with "terrible Mexican" or somesuch to then turn around and complain about this very equation.

The terms "illegals" and "Mexicans" are used so interchangably through all this and you know it.

Please, do not hold me to account for another person's posts. Thank you.

That said, have you ever asked yourself why many may associate the term illegal immigrant with Mexicans? Might that have anything at all to do with the portion of illegal immigrants that are, in fact, Mexican? Is that somehow my fault? Or my neighbor's? I'm sorry, dear, but you are clearly directing your anger over this association in the wrong direction.

Do I think of Mexicans first and foremost when thinking of illegal immigrants? Yes. Guilty as charged. Do I have a fairly valid reason for this? I would most certainly think so. Several million of them, actually. Yet, associating one term with the other is not the same as equating one with the other. I keep a keen awareness that there are many illegal immigrants of other origin in this country and never speak of Mexicans when speaking of illegal immigrants or vice versa. No interchangability for me here.

This is what I see when I come to VJ:

Those Mexicans come here and wave their flag and demand free health care and don't speak English.

Those Mexicans have too many kids.

Those Mexicans marching in the street should all be rounded up like cattle and deported.

Those Mexicans are going to make life more difficult for all who do it the right way.

Those Mexicans who came illegally should be barred from possibility of future re-entry (thanks for supporting that one Peejay)

Sorry if I get a little touchy about it. All I see is negativity. Not an ounce of compassion or empathy, not a bit of discretion.

sigh... you don't get it yet

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I also wanted to add that I know of at least one specific situation that occurred in the past few days where someone's LEGAL Mexican husband was the target and victim of hatefulness (discrimination and racism).

Fuzz, you can't tell me that you honestly believe the hatefulness that he experienced wasn't at all related to what's going on right now.

I can report that yesterday while I ate a taco some gringos threw baked potatoes at me :(

AS! Are you hungry or something??

Would you mind linking me to the statement that Mexicans should be rounded up like cattle? I'm particularly interested in the "like cattle" part. I don't remember having read that anywhere. But then, I don't read every last one of the rant threads either...

Yes :(

On a more serious note, when I think of visiting Mexico I think sun and food. When I think of Mexicans in general, I think Mexican food. I am obsessed with Mexican food :(

I read something about dropping a net on the rallies.

Where did I say that? Please don't start putting words in my mouth because that really ticks me off when someone does that :(

Not trying to do that...sorry...just trying to bring across a point (unsuccessfully, albeit, but trying) that there is in fact a growing anti-Mexican sentiment in this country, and on VJ as well.

Do you honestly believe that what's going on right now isn't at all related to several million people that unilaterally decided that the laws of our land somehow do not apply to them and then lately iced the cake by demanding (in Spanish no less) that our law be bent to meet their needs all the while waving the Mexican flag? I mean, at least try to do what your asking of others: See the other side of the issue.

Is that how cattle is rounded up? With nets? I thought that is how one might do some large scale fishing or something but cattle?

I don't see an anti-mexican anything on VJ. I see anti-illegal immigrant.

But yes I do see anti-mexican stuff around the land, but the illegals crying about their rights seem to be more numerous right now.
