Is Alien number becomes the ssn number?

Hey guys I am really curious Is Alein number becomes the Social Security Number? One day I applied for the new phone connection and told the sales guy I don't have ssn number but have A# number than he said ok I can check If it works or not and suprisingly it worked.

So I want to know from the guys who got their ssn number can you please tell me what is the real scoop??

10-04-06 - Petitioner (wife) sent I-130 to USCIS Vermont Service Center

10-14-06 - Petitioner received NOA 1 "Receipt Notice"

01-17-07 - USCIS NOA2 "Approval Notice"

The Real Scoop,

Your Alien Registration Number (A#) is not the same as, nor will it become your social security number, they are two separate things. :thumbs:

The A# is used but the USCIS (Immigration) while your Social Security # is used by the Social Security # Administration.

They are both completely different numbers, however they have one thing in common, which is that they are unique and can identify you and you only with the relevant authorities, i.e. an SSN with the Social Security Administration, and the A# with DHS/USCIS.

It's true that an A# will sometimes work in lieu of an SSN.

Timeline:

2005-04-14: met online

2005-09-03: met in person

2007-02-26: filed for K-1

2007-03-19: K-1 approved

2007-06-11: K-1 in hand

2007-07-03: arrived in USA

2007-07-21: got married, yay!

2007-07-28: applied for green card

2008-02-19: conditional green card in hand

2010-01-05: applied for removal of conditions

2010-06-14: 10-year green card in hand

2013-11-19: applied for US citizenship

2014-02-10: became a US citizen

2014-02-22: applied for US passport

2014-03-14: received US passport
