Regardless of the politics of the whole thing, anyone who's gone through the process knows that 10 thousand dollars is nowhere near worth going through it! 50k might be tempting... or 100k...

does this mean ... it's not the principle ... it's the price ?

Lisa's worth at least 20k. ;)

hahhahahahahahaha

Meanwhile, I'm just so pizzed off about it cos not only is it VISA FRAUD, but he obviously doesn't know the process at all.

Meh, I suppose I shouldn't be upset, if some girl is dumb enough to agree to this, if she doesn't do the research herself, it's her problem...

Someone I vaguely know (an immigrant) turns around and asks me and a friend of mine 'hey do you want to marry my friend? He'll give you $10k, you only have to be married 18 mos, and you don't even have to live together.'

Man, he got an earful!

But.how.fricken.infuriating!!!

When someone complains about how long and frustrating the visa process is, I point out that people like the one you mentioned, ruin it for everyone else after them trying to legitimately complete.

I'm glad some of us still see the importance in what a REAL marriage is all about.

Thats sick.

I know a girl who is using her husband for a green card, it didn't start out that way. But as soon as she gets it she's planning on leaving him. ugh. It makes me ill.

I could really care less if people come into the USA illegally or not. I came in the correct way and get a good nights sleep every night, not worrying if ICE is going to knock on my doorstep! And i feel no pity for these people when they get kicked out, having to leave love ones behind! One would have to many ulcers if ya worried about other people, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yes. 100k is a lot. Maybe if my situation was different, like a few years ago when I was in college and not thinking about the future I would probably have taken that amount of money.

I definitely wouldn't now, aside from the fact that I'm already marrying someone and I wouldn't give that up for any amount of money, not even several billion dollars.

Assume you had no SO and someone offered you the 18 month deal. There's no price you wouldn't accept? A million? 10 million? There are things that are so heinous and depraved that most of us wouldn't do them for any amount of money (murder, rape, betraying family, etc). I don't think fooling the government in such a manner is one of those things.

I agree that 10k is not worth the risk and effort, moral issues aside.

You should tell the husband, that's pretty wrong to take advantage of someone like that.

Myself as well. And if people don't think that there aren't organized "marriage for hire" groups out there in the world (primarily in the US, I might add), they'd be sadly mistaken!

I was asked to do the same thing when I lived in Canada. In my opinion, only someone with a criminal mind will do something illegal.... whatever that something illegal is. If a person is willing to receive money to assist another to enter a country illegally, well..... they both deserve what's coming their way. :content:

It's like when I read somewhere 'if you marry a USC, you are automatically a citizen'

Isnt it amazing how many people still believe that? The majority of my relatives and aquaintences still have this stuck in their heads and cannot understand for the life of them why we are having to invest so much time and money in immigration. I get so sick of constantly explaining marriage to a USC is not a free ticket to citzenship.

Knowing what I know now.........how frustrating, time consuming, and expensive this process is........Hell, if I did not love the guy, there is not a chance I would do this for any price!

I don't know her husband personally. I wish I did.

I would tell him.

I don't talk to her anymore because of this entire issue. We have a mutual friend who got her a lawyer to work for her pro bono.

She came here from Venezuela on a tourist visa and overstayed. She got married, and has been here for 6 years illegally. Now she's getting a green card. It makes no sense to me how she's getting any of this.
