I think it is always best to ask the consulate that will be doing the interview about this type of thing. Not all consulates have you send back packet 3 forms prior to scheduling the interview. In Manila, for instance, the forms are sent to the beneficiary along with a medical appointment date and interview date. The forms (including the one that asks about planned travel dates) are brought to the interview by the beneficiary and are not sent in before the interview is scheduled.

Stacy,

All consulates are going to require a DS-156 for K visas - DS-156 is the non-immigrant visa application form, and the K visas are non-immigrant visas.

However, I fear that your statement about the consulates using proposed travel and wedding dates to schedule interviews is misleading. I doubt very much that the consulates are going to let a visa applicant dictate to them when the interview will be held by the answer given to the question about when the applicant plans to arrive in the USA. Rather, the consulates tend to schedule interviews in queue order based on application date.

Certainly a consulate will be likely to work with the applicant to defer an interview to a date that is further out in time, but they are less likely to work with an applicant who wants to travel sooner than the consulate's processing backlog allows.

I see an item on DS-156 where a K1 applicant could provide their proposed wedding date, but I don't see an item that asks for the information.

Well on the packet 3 paperwork it ask for your planned travel date and wedding date....that is what they go by to schedule your appointment and then ya got 6 months to use the visa to enter the country and then you got 90 days to get married....i don't see the problem.

ne ways good luck on whatever ya decide to do!

Stacy

Stacy, is that for all consulates...I mean, packet 3 paperwork that comes from the consulate? Do they all ask you what your planned travel date and wedding date is? Joel and I haven't sat down to even think about a possible wedding date. Just curious...

Karen I am not sure if ALL packet 3's include a DS-156...But on the form it ask for your travel date. (22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?)

And when I had emailed them to find out when I could expect a interview date...they told me becuase Paul's intended travel date was Feb 1st that they would schedule a interview closer to his intended travel time. (Paul's interview was Dec 5th.)

I hope this helps.

You are correct. Morocco sends the interview date in Packet 3 and asks that the paperwork be brought to the interview. There is no mailing paperwork back. I have seen several people there call to postpone an interview because they weren't ready yet.

Since your fiancee is coming from Canada, I'd recommend looking at the timelines, if possible for the province she is from, to see what to expect. That should give you an idea of the wait times you can anticipate.

Also, for travel date we put something about "after the visa is issued" and didn't put a wedding date at all. It seems presumptuous to me to decide when you're going to travel before you even know when you will have a visa.
