Well, after rushing to get it in, it looks like I actually need the K-1 process to take up to 1 year to complete. If everything with right, then, we could look at having the visa in anohter 6 months, then we could wait 6 months to use the visa, however this is cutting it tight. Is there a way to put a hold on the process, or if we drag our feet can we make this take 12 months without issue?

Thanks

Scott

You can delay sending the documents to the embassy, up to the last possible day and thereby spend a few more months - generally people are trying to gain days/weeks not lose them. Good luck

Scott,

As motu suggests, things can probably be slowed down at the consulate, where the visa application will be made and processed.

But I recommend that you do it by way of dialog with the consulate, not by delay in responding to the consulate as motu suggests. You might find that "the last possible day" has long passed.

I called the Montreal Consulate last week with some questions. One of them was what if the deadline goes past without us realizing it (due to getting papers, medical etc. together).....the lady told me that they would send out a letter reminding me that my deadline was getting close, did I still want to file...So apparently they will send out a reminder (check with the Embassy your fiancee has to go through).........Good luck.................{{{{{HUGS}}}}

you can delay it by rescheduling your interview or just go ahead and get the visa and then delay coming here, i think that the visa is good for 4 months? and you can extend that if you ask check on those ways of delaying it.

Thanks for the replies, I know it's not often people want to take longer. Put with a fiancee in collage things change. I think will most likely be slow, but not last minute, and as a last result have fiancee reschedule the interview. And if necessary apply for an extension of the visa, but I want to find out about that first.

Well on the packet 3 paperwork it ask for your planned travel date and wedding date....that is what they go by to schedule your appointment and then ya got 6 months to use the visa to enter the country and then you got 90 days to get married....i don't see the problem.

ne ways good luck on whatever ya decide to do!

Stacy, is that for all consulates...I mean, packet 3 paperwork that comes from the consulate? Do they all ask you what your planned travel date and wedding date is? Joel and I haven't sat down to even think about a possible wedding date. Just curious...

Karen I am not sure if ALL packet 3's include a DS-156...But on the form it ask for your travel date. (22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?)

And when I had emailed them to find out when I could expect a interview date...they told me becuase Paul's intended travel date was Feb 1st that they would schedule a interview closer to his intended travel time. (Paul's interview was Dec 5th.)

I hope this helps.

Thanks Stacy....it does help :) But another question I have is...how do you put a date on there for travel, when you have no idea when you're going? I mean, of course he's going to fly here as soon as he gets that visa in his hand...but how do you predict that? Do you tell th em (for a date) "as soon as possible" or do you have to give them a specific date?

I had to ask the Consulate to delay my K1 interview because I was contractually bound to my employer until March 06. I went through London and just sent a letter with all my documents asking them to schedule an interview after ### date for the following reasons....blahblah. They granted my request with no difficulties. Good luck.

I know everyone on here is trying to get the process sped up so the few of us who ask for delays seem like freaks :P I wish I could be with my fiance now but unfortunately I'm stuck here for another month. I have had my visa since October and it breaks my heart not to be able to use it :(
