This is just something we've been thinking about, but it's just a thought for now.

Is it possible for us to travel to another country to get married, since we can't do that in Egypt anymore? Would we have to cancel the k1 and file for another type of visa if we did that? And would that have to all be done with another embassy (the country we would marry)?

Would this all be too much of an added headache and we should just stick with the K1 and wait it out?

I'd appreciate some input here. :help:

Hugs,

Ayesha (F)

ohhhh i forgot, they have his passport!

I think the answer to all would be yes

If you marry, something we have considered but we are so close, you would have to cancel the K1 since it is for a fiance only and refile as a spouse, ie. start the entire process over again.

I think, but double check, that if you marry you must file for the visa in the country where you married.

Best advice is unless there are major problems where you don't think the K1 will be approved or unless you are very early in the process, is to just stick with the K1 and wait it out.

Yes unfortunatley you would have to cancel the K-1 and file for a K-3 because then you would be married and would have to bring him here as your husband. So actually it would take you longest to go through the whole process all over again rather than to just wait it out. I think you would be better off just waiting it out because i know you would not want to go through the headache of doing this mess all over again. Just my thought. I hope whatever you decide will work out for you both. Hugs to you i know the waiting is hard but believe me your day is coming! you will see!!

Hugs,

Thanks Belinda and AJ1. Today was one of those: waking up and moping around in my fluffly slippers day.

It was just one of those plan B ideas that popped up but if it's that much of a headache, then I'll wait it out!! I can't imagine starting all over again from 0. ughh.

I'll take off my fluffly slippers  and head for the shower!! Those little bunny eyes depress me!

Thank you both :luv: . And yes AJ1, but i have to add, your day is also coming!! I still say that we'll both celebrate together inshaAllah. We'll have to get together, just for that ocassion!

I'm adding you to our list  . We'll all get together to celebrate inshaAllah! We'll probably get our visas the same time INSHA'ALLAHHHHH. Just praying that it's soon!!

What's up with Dubai? why if the fiance is muslim they require us to be residents?

So it is still possible to marry in Egypt, if it's with a lawyer?

I agree w/others that have posted. I believe if you marry you need to cancel the K1 and file K3 and it seems that process can be longer and others here have personal experience w/this...as far as marrying in Egypt...an American can marry in Egypt...only the catch is that the marriage is not recognized in America...this is my understanding of it..I have thought the same things too....and still waiting it out and there are still others that have waited far longer than I have so far........I hope you all get those VISAS soon and cant wait to see one or better yet ALL of you post VISA IN HAND!!!!!!! Good luck to you all.......((((hugs)))) Melinda

I dont think its because it isnt recognised I think you cannot get the necessary paper to get authorization. I actually think somehow there were too many people getting married and maybe they got this secret agreement to stop the marriages ( ok its a conspiracty theory oh well)

I THINK IF YOU MARRY IT WILL LENGTHEN THE PROCESS. MY SO HAD HIS INTERVIEW A YEAR AGO ON THE 14th OF NEVEMBER. WE HAVE BEEN IN A/P EVER SINCE. I THOUGHT OF MARRYING IN ANOTHE COUNTRY AS WELL. BUT I THINK IT WOULD ONLY ADD TIME TO THE PROCESS. SO IV DECIDED TO GO WITH THE FIANCE APPLICATION UNTIL THE END. DEBBIE

salam to u .....

i got married to my -now husband- who is an USC through a lawyer and oh god whatta ride!! but it worked out at the end. u can also keep the k1 visa and get married religiously only which is called "orfi" in arabic then after u get the visa you can turn it into legal marraige in america. that advice was actually given to my husband from the embassy it self he told him " we only concider legal marraiges, if u get a legal marraige ur k1 will be denied ... if u want to continue k1 get married religiously only and not legally until you the get the visa". but i didnt do that coz my dad freaked out ... its not something anyone can go with here in egypt your SO wd tell u why. so i cancelled the k1 and got married and started a k3 from the top:(( and here i am suffereing another long wait:( dont mean to depress u lol anyways good luck and let me know if u have any other questions.

im egyptian and my husband is the USC.

peace:)
