We've had quite a few lay offs at the company lately. They got rid of all the temps and part-timers and a few of the office workers now have to help out on the floor as well.

Hubby is the 3d shift supervisor and has two operators left on his shift. I don't know what we'll do if they decide to just shut down his shift...

I work in a plastics injection molding place, btw.

Anyone hiring? I have experience as a receptionist and a dish washer >.> LOL

I work at the County level in CA and due to heavy budget cuts, about 100 people were laid off recently. A couple of county electricians were doing repairs in our department a few weeks ago (request had been in for over a year, but not enough workers to do the requests), both of them got laid off. All county vacancies were canceled, everyone was told to get rid of the extra help (temp/part time) employees and each department has to cut 10% of their costs in any way they choose (including handing out pink slips).

Wow, I'm sorry for all this misfortune that many VJers are having.

I feel quite blessed to be in a field where I am somewhat assured stability.

But since P is hoping to find work in computer science here in Seattle, maybe I should be worried?

Yeah we have Microsoft, Google, and Boeing, but that doesn't mean much...

there's another furniture factory here in Morganton closing by the end of the year and moving production to China or something. They're keeping on the office staff only. 521 people will be hitting the streets in less than a month. And we're already one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, so they'll be on the books a good long while. Unless they move out of this state to look for work.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
