Aah so you're one of those counselors corporations always offer to help us "manage change"? I didn't sign up for it the one time I was offered, I don't know anyone who did. Do you get a lot of takers?

sometimes, we do..but most of the time..you stay in an office and read a book.//..i did once in 3 shifts recently and worked with the managers...

the best one, was a small refinery closed in texas..about 6 years ago...about 50 ees...the town was total pop..about 1500.....anyway, the next day after the announcement....4 women,. whipped the human resuorces director's wife's azz in a store...the police told her when she tried to press charges, that they had 150 witness said she was drunk and felt down over a curb in the street,.,

2 nights later, when they returned home, theur house was on fire..the volunteer fire dept. refused to put a drop of water on it..but hosed down the house next to them....

so, we do some work with management on behavior that may be detrimental to their continued health and welfare

Know of, 15 people at hubbys work. (insurance).

Why? Because they used to have a crappy system and now they have one that's efficient. Their customer numbers have gone up and they still don't have need for all their people.

The Government should take a look at efficiency and layoff a few people.

due to that, an indication of potential layoffs is the hr director puts their house up for sale and their family goes to visit relatives......

My husband was laid off in May when Ameriquest Mortgage took a huge hit and downsized by a few thousand. Now he's working for a crappy company who have twice inn the last two months put him on 30 days notice. He keeps interviewing and is hugely talented with 20 years experience but the job market is definitely slowing down here in SoCal. He's a senior level IT guy. I just hope he doesn't get laid off before he finds another job this time (as happened the last twice) as my pay check is about $5000 short each month!!!!

what's the general rule of thumb in your work regarding the best day to fire someone? i've heard it's friday afternoon, that way they have all weekend to cool off.

I've seen that a lot too. Friday afternoon followed by a oh-so-gracious "take the rest of the day off" to those who remain.
