To be fair, I'll answer first - we have three bank accounts, his, mine and ours... actually we'll be opening a fourth some time soon and hopefully closing his old one because I HATE that bank with a passion.

And no we have no nestegg whatsoever... neither of us brought any significant assets to the marriage, and it's hard enough to pay the bills on time every month :( We both know that savings is important and we'd LIKE to start saving money but it hasn't happened yet.

We have a joint savings, joint chequing, a savings account in my name, a chequing account in my name, and my two accounts in Canada that we are keeping open to pay off my debt and student loan. I think we're covered.;)

We have $700 set aside in my savings account in case of emergency, so that we don't use our credit cards-- we're trying to get rid of our credit card debt. Once we do that, then there will be more going to savings. With my student loan and stuff, it's really really hard to find the extra to pay them down, since our budget is tight. So we've had a lot of yard sales!

Oh, and Jerry has his 401(k).

two joint accounts, one checking and one saving. and a brokerage acct of my owb. Our savings account is a joke really, i need to move to to ING direct or HSBC or something. Or maybe some CDs. I also have a few 401ks and an IRA. I am going to open my wife a roth IRA before april 17 deadline too. I havent managed to save much in the last two years, what with the travel back and forth, the wedding/reception and new furniture etc. And a new car soon too :( But hopefully the savings will grow again soon, one fine day.

And you cant seriously expect me to say how much I have.. that's personal.

No, you don't have to say exactly how much money you have... I was mostly interested in whether you had nothing, a little, or a lot, and whether we're the only ones who are totally broke!

We have a few bank accounts between us, but he's moving here this weekend so I guess one of them is about to be closed out

And between my car and student loans, we aren't able to save much, but for our first years out of college, I would say we aren't doing too badly! And we know savings are important and will try!

We have just one joint checking account, some money in savings but not a whole lot. Bought a car last year. We can pay our bills on time, no credit debts whatsoever so I think we're managing rather well. Would like to save up some more though. Maybe once David gets his yearly raise.

OMG I have a lot of accounts! I believe in financial independence. We have joint saving and joint checking. Then I have my own saving and checking - gotta save for school. Then he has his own checking, and we're going to open up his saving account as soon as we have $ so that he can save up for all his computer gadgets that he loves. We're joint saving for our summer vacation to San Franscisco (sp?!) but that's not going so well yet. Lucky we've got 6 months.

btw, the poll about how much we have was a little too specific and personal. Unfortunately the software wouldn't let me answer just the first 2 questions.

I have 3 personal accounts and he has one. We have a savings account each and one joint one. Nest egg is pretty substantial thanks to house sale from London but essentially that is part of my pension at the moment until I decide what to do with it. He also has his own savings and an excellent pension. The joint savings account is being added to monthly. We're both pretty advanced in our careers so we're lucky but have been there with the student loans and being broke all the time including long term unemployment. It sucked!

There is no way to know who answers the poll question or what your answer is... it's totally anonymous... but i'm sorry i didn't put a 'none of your business' option. i didn't think of it but you could always say 'none'.

Personally I'm surprised at how many people have more than fifty thousand dollars saved up... that's an unimaginable amount of money to me.

50k+ really isn't that hard. Just takes time, that's all. How long have you and your spouse been working?

I don't and I don't intend to. I'm a housewife all the way round. Which I know rules out the possiblity of saving because I 'might' be making a decent income... but I really don't see how much difference the income from a checkout chick or shelf stocker would make to us, and that's about the only job I'm qualified for.

If you say so. All I have to say is, many people are "qualified" for a lot more than they realize, but since you don't intend to work anyway, it's a moot point. Good luck.

Joel and I haven't gotten to that stage just yet....I suppose we'll have two checking accounts and a savings account. I have my teachers retirement and a VERY tiny IRA. Depends on how much we have to invest as to where that investment is put. :)

I have like 4 accts and I have one with ING Direct AS, I guess right now whatever money you deposit earns 4.75 for some special they are running.

I come out just even every month so can't save anything now. Once hubby s here and working most of his will go to savings as most of his will be disposable income as I currently live within my means.
