Instead of putting N/A, put "None". I've seen people get RFE for putting N/A. Good Luck with the process!

Be particularly sure to put "none" in the box for previous marriages. But I would argue N/A is techically the correct answer for the other boxes, as they become "Not Applicable" because you indicated no previous marriages.

I just put none in the first box asking for previous marriages and left the others empty. There is of course more than one correct way to fill out the forms, but think about each answer carefully, whether it is actaully "none" or "Not Applicable"

okay good advice I did it that way, the original question I put none and everything else for that question N/A. So I hope I'm doing it right.

I thought the form said in the directions where to use N/A and None.

um no it doesn't its not clear. I wouldn't ask this stupid question if it was clear!

I don't think it really matters if you fill in every box. Just put "None" in the appropriate boxes, if you want to but N/A in the others like you said, go ahead..but again, I don't think it matters.

I put N/A in some boxes and NONE in some, but, since we haven't been approved, and there have been some RFE's the advice I have been hearing is NONE is better than N/A.

When a question is applicable, N/A is not a good idea. Usually the correct answer will then be "none". Instead of one or the other or a hard and fast rule, I suggest none when the question is applicable but the answer is none. and N/A when the question itself isn't applicable under the circumstances.

A perfect example has already been given. If the answer to previous marriages is "none" the questions about the nonexistant previous spouse are N/A.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

"None" is for when the question applies to you, but the answer is 'there is nothing to list here.'

"Not applicable" is for when the question doesn't apply to you because you don't meet some condition on the question.

The marriage example is perfect. I hadn't been married before, but the question still applies to me, so I answered "none." But when the question went on to ask for the names of the spouses, I answered 'N/A', because the question didn't apply since I had no previous spouse. (Other non-immigration examples.... suppose you're female, and the generic medical questionnaire asks for the date of your last prostate exam. N/A is the right response.)
