Hi,

My conditional GC expires first week of December 07. I sent my I-751 around Sep 20 and the check was cashed on Sep 28. As of Nov 15, I have not received any notice of action from Vermont Service Center.

I had called their general help line number, and the person told me that due to a large volume of applications received all notices are being delayed by 3 months. It didn't seem like she knew what she was talking about. From this forum, it appears that people are receiving their NOA1 without any extraordinary delays.

My GC expires in 3 weeks. What are my options really?

Thanks.

One option is to make an infopass appoint and try to get an I-551 stamp in your pasport!

Good luck...

Thanks. Anybody has any experience with an info pass appointment?

I tried to get one at the website and selected the option "Services on a case that has already been filed". It gives me following 4 options.

Order from Immigration Court - If you were directed to us for processing based on an order from the Immigration Judge. You must bring all documents required in the post order instructions given to you by the court. I wasn't ordered by a court

Case Processing Appointment - If you received a notice to go to your local office for further case processing. I didn't receive any notice.

EAD inquiry appointment - If your I-765 employment authorization application has been pending for more than 90 days. Never filed I-765

Case Services follow-up appointment - If it has been over 45 days since you contacted NCSC and have not received a response to your inquiry. You must bring the Service Request ID Number related to your inquiry to the appointment. This one suggests to me that I need to first request them to research my case on the phone and then wait for 45 days.

If I call them and wait for 45 days, I would be living in the US with an expired permanent resident card. Does that make me deportable?

Any other thoughts on how I can save my booty here :-)

You never received the NOA1, but did everything else proceed as expected after that? Was there ever a time when your conditional GC had expired, but you didn't have a stamp yet?

In my case, I am unable to get an infopass appointment either. The website simply says an appointment is not available at this time. Is there another way of getting that, besides the website?

Thanks everybody for the wishes !

Here's my update. Anybody reading this should keep in mind this is just one person's experience :-)

1) My appointment went pretty smooth and easy. I was in and out within 45 minutes - pretty good compared to most other government office experiences I've ever had.

2) The people that I spoke with were polite and nice. I didn't have to explain anything, they saw my case and immediately knew what I was talking about.

3) Just in case you're curious, I went to Newark.

A few other things that surprised me because I didn't know it before:

1) I got the I-551 stamp on my passport which is valid for another 1 year. But they kept my green card. Not that an expired card could be much use, but I was surprised they did that. I think my only disappointment is that was the neatest ID I ever had ! I just realized my passport will expire before this stamp will, but I'll worry about it when I get there.

2) At least according to the person I was talking to, unless you're planning to travel outside the country, the expired green card is not much of a reason to panic. As long as you've filed your I-751, you're okay. If you're in a similar situation as mine, you may still want to go ahead and get the stamp but my advice is don't worry it's okay.

Some other things I learnt.

1) The first few times I tried to get an info pass appointment, I didn't get it because of overload. It is okay when you get the message no appointments are available, you should try again later.

2) While taking the info pass appointment, there was no specific statement that applied to my case (card expired and notice not received yet). However, they didn't seem to care what reason was written on the appointment. As long as I had one, they were willing to talk to me.

Great I am happy you were able to get it resolved. Hopefully your NOA still comes in the mail one of these days.

if you are not leaving the country it's not too important the have an expired GC. we got the stamp before it expired. my wife is in Thailand right now.

edit: good to hear Yorker. they let my wife keep her card too.
