When do we get a Social Security Number? My wife applied for AOS. Do we get the Social Security number after she gets her green card?

you dont just get a ssn, you have to apply for one! since you already applied for aos i guess your wifes I-94 runs out soon or is already invalid. so you would have to wait to apply for a ssn either until she gets her green card or, if she also applied for an ead, until ead is issued!

If she came in on a K-1 she can apply up to two weeks before the expiry of her I-94. If she came in on a K-3, she'll need to wait for her EAD or greencard. If she's a K-1 and her I-94 has expired or within two weeks of expiring, she'll need to wait for her greencard.

We just got her Employment Authorization card. I-94 expired long ago. I am USC. Can we get the SSN by going to the SSA office? Our attorney says that we just need to show them the passport, translated-to-English birth certificate, and the EAD card. Is this accurate? Thanks!

If the birth certificate (BC) needs to be translated SSA has to do it. You can't bring in your own. Might be able to get away with just the passport and EAD card. Use the passport for age and the EAD card for identity and work authorization. Just say she doesn't have a BC handy.

"If the applicant has no immediate need for the SSN and the translation can be done promptly or the foreign language document is the only evidence available; have the document translated by an authorized translator and use the document as evidence. If the applicant has a pressing need for an SSN, and evidence other than the foreign language document is available; request other evidence and process the application without the foreign language document."
