this is actualy kinda funny ,

yesterday I spend the day looking for a civil surgeon in my area ,

i found 1 right here in town and about 5-6 in the city wich is like 20 min drive ,

anyhow first I calld the one in town , the lady tryed to convince me that I need full medical ,

told her no I came on a K1 visa , k1 requires a one time medical before enter the country then she said yes you do need a full medical or you can be concidert eligal ,

I started to crack up laughin at her told her lady do me favore please open the gov website read everything you can find about immigration on K1 visa , I know for a fact that I dont need a full medical , she said well since you know it so well I guess I could transcript the vaccination to the suppliment form ,

i said good so how much will it be ? she said 60$ ( i was like damn golddiggers lol ) told her ok I will set an appointment but might have to call back to cancell it she said OK FINE , lol ,

then i calld the rest of the doctors on my list each and everyone tryd to convince me that I needed full medical , or they charged between 40 - 60 bucks ,

so I calld the good doctor in texas ( the lifesaver everyone talks about here :D )had to leave a message , but then they calld back

the lady was real nice said to just mail it in with a check of 10 $ and some private info they required , as soon as they reseave it they can mail it out within 24 - 48 hrs , I was like wow this is perfect thank you hung up ,

then calld back the first doc told her well I have to cancell my appointment , she said you need a full medical right , I said nope but I did find someone who will do exactly what is required by law for 10$ so thank you and please like I said do some studies about K 1 immigration have a good day < :LOL

I had to explain several times to the receptionist that I did not need a full medical, just the vaccination supplement when I went to the Civil Surgeon here.

They finally did it for me- I paid $120.00. That was their charge for being a first time patient. The office was actually a laser/dermatologist clinic. I never left the waiting room- the receptionist just took it back for the Doctor to sign.

When I got home, I faxed the part in the instructions that said only vaccination supplements were required. I put a little side note saying they should be a little more up to date and knowledgeable.

I've already told my brother about this scam and as soon as he's able (must be in practice for four years) he's going to see if he can be certified as a civil surgeon. Sounds like most "civil surgeons" aren't too civil, just plain money grubbers.

 $120 and $60? Wow, guess we should be thankful ours only made us pay $25 (not only but he was a 2 min drive from us.) We almost thought we were going to get it for free!

Glad we didn't get the ''You have to get a medical treatment" - he seemed to believe us when we told him I didn't need a full medical according to the paperwork although he did think I was in for a medical at first. But I'm glad it didn't take much convincing because I don't know that I would have been good at being persuasive or insistent lol (we probably would have just went somewhere else or something if the doctor was too persistent or stubborn or assertive.) haha

That's fantastic, Lona. I hope they actually do their homework (yeah right!)

I honestly can't believe the number of civil surgeon horror stories that I hear out there... makes me want to get all their names and send them to USCIS with a note that says, "And you certify these people WHY?" Luckily my supplement only cost $40, but that was after I convinced half the office that I wasn't crazy. Jeez.

Dr. Arnold's office must be making a huge killing in the market, especially since he seems to know exactly what the hell he's doing.

Best to be nice, ya never know when you have to go to them for a real visit!! They just may forget the lubrication, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I waited a bit too long to compile an AOS package, I couldn't wait for a sealed envelope to be mailed to me from Texas. After making several calls and being told they had to do a full medical, and hearing prices from $100-$250, I finally found someone on the USCIS approved civil surgeon list who would fill out the supplement without a new medical. I paid $50, which is a bit much, but I needed it that day. Supply and demand. The other people INSISTED on a full exam.

The doc I used seemed to know what I was talking about when I asked if he would do this without a medical, which is more than I can say about the others I called. I heard about someone else in Richmond who fills out the supplement without an check-up, and for a decent price. So some of them know what's going on.

I also wonder why some of those people were on the list. Perhaps they pay USCIS to get on the list and make extra money off people? :jest:

This whole immigration process sure makes business for people - passport, certificate of celibacy, police reports, birth certificates, translator, airlines, moving companies, doctors, etc - oh the money! lol

If I cause offense it is not on purpose, think about that before you take offense. If you feel offended, consider that maybe I'm not talking about you and maybe I accidentally stumbled onto a sore area and do not know. Thank you.
