Canadian RCMP tasers a 40-year old Polish immigrant to death at Vancouver airport

I'm coming into this story late, I know, but I wanted to say something about it...

To start off, from my experience, the law enforcement personnel (this includes the RCMP, CATSA and CBSA) at YVR seem to be fairly "on edge" to begin with. Granted, I've visited around the holidays near Christmas, so maybe they're just tired and irritated due to all the travelers; however, I've still found these officers to be far less friendly in Vancouver than anywhere else in Canada.

So I'm not at all surprised that RCMP at YVR tasered a non-English-speaking Polish immigrant to death. Whether or not that was the original intent is unknown and as it's already been established, the idea behind tasers is that are non-lethal. Therefore, a police officer should be able to use them without fear of the target dying.

Just so I don't sound like I hate Canadian law enforcement (I don't at all; I'm merely unenthused by YVR), the police have difficult jobs. When they have to make split-second decisions, it's easy to make what seems like the right choice at the time... only to have it turn out to be the wrong option later on. With the benefit of hindsight, we can analyze the situation and probably come up with a solution that would've satisfied everyone involved. But we're sitting in homes (or work offices), relatively safe and without the responsibility of protecting anyone other than ourselves and our family. Had any of us been put in the same spot, we may have acted similarly given that we were holding a (supposedly) non-lethal weapon.

i've yet to see a report about what was the cause of death so i'm not sure it's accurate to say he was tasered to death.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

i don't think the tasering was the main cause of his death, but rather lack of oxygen.. when he is being held down, one of the pigs (yes, not cops) was holding his neck with the knee, of course he couldnt breathe

Hmmm... yes, perhaps you're right. It may have been premature to state that the tasering itself was the primary (or sole) cause of death. However, the point still remains that the law enforcement officers at YVR seem to have a serious "chip on their shoulder," especially when it comes to foreigners.
