My parents are no longer with us, but at times they could be strict. I was 17 when I met my first husband and probably only saw him about 5 times in the first 3 months, cos I would get grounded for coming in late haha

They were excellenr parents, very loving and fair! There was 7 of us kids, so they certainly had their hands full!

After losing their first child when he was only 9 (I was 3 at the time), my parents become overly protective and were incessant worriers. It still effects how I communicate with them now (my Dad will be turning 80 next month) - I filter what information about my life that would cause them to worry needlessly.

My mother was/is always INSANELY over protective. I am an only child.

I wouldn't call her strict...I'd probably just call her nuts.

Example:

I skipped school a few too many times in highschool and she dressed up in a house coat, curlers in her hair and those ugly fuzzy flip flop slippers and walked me to every single class.

Truth: I never did skip again after that. But it was still insane.

"Strict" is really subjective. My parents were fair but firm. In today's age, (I'm 49) I wouldn't say they were strict or overprotective. Just right in fact. I think I raised both my own children that way as well.

What I most love about my parents, is that they let me experience my own failings and disappointments, and didn't try to intervene all the time to protect me from them. I learned so much about life, parenting, and accepting responsibility for my behaviour this way.

My parents were very liberal and there were very few 'rules' in our house, we were allowed to set our own bedtimes etc. None of us kids went off the rails either. Funnily enough we all raise our families completely opposite to how we were brought up...I don't know why that is as we all agree how happy our childhood was....I guess different times and we have to give our partners a say as well

 my parents worry way more about my children than they ever did about me! I can't believe how 'clucky' they are even over my 21yr old son....I moved to London by myself at 17 and hardly got a phonecall

My dad wasn't strict at all. Actually I was very spoiled, being an only child for years (sis and bro are way younger). Then I had a sister and a brother and when I became a teenager my dad changed drastically. Bad move. Parents can't let their children do and have what they want for years and then decide they can't do what they want nor have what they want anymore. it doesn't work that way.

But overall they were great parents. And they're not perfect. Being a parent is a daily learning, plus, you can always learn from your parents mistakes not to do the same with your kids.

My mom was a cross between a prison guard and a fundamentalist . Let's not go there.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Looking back on it, I am pretty sure that my parents weren't as strict as I had built them up to be in my mind.

My parents are pretty cool :)
