You know, I've never seen people ragging on other peoples grandparents on VJ before. Maybe today is a good day to start. Hopefully this thread can become our latest entrant into the locked threads hall of fame by end of business today.

Your grandparents #### me off! :P

It's just funny that someone would blame their 'great' grand parents. For their own language shortcomings. One of those "it's not my fault" people. Blame everbody but yourself.

I can't do a lot of things and it's all my fault.. not my relatives or the way I was raised.

It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I agree. My great-grandparents never taught me Italian, but I studied it, lived there, learned it on my own.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Jenn this is really for you....could I have learned Italian? Absolutely...surely that goes without saying. But at the end of the day, when a child is taught a second language, it's soaked up quickly & easily. Do you agree? I did not dedicate the time nor the energy to learn the language...because, well...it was more important and practical to learn Spanish. I don't have the time to learn 2 languages...and tbh, even if I did learn Italian....I'd have no one to speak it with! My family stopped speaking Italian with my great-grandparents.... for various reasons...this is the point that I was making, and now has been so ridiculously pulled apart. I sometimes forget where I am lately, that I have to make sure there's not one thing in a post that can be taken out of context & beaten to death!

That doesn't still mean I wouldn't have loved to have been taught it at a time when it would be damn easy to pick up. And before anyone starts ragging on my intelligence....I graduated high school at 16 with a full college scholarship...so it';s not a question of lack of intelligence. But we've all seen those little kids running around that are speaking two languages...and I think that's kinda cool! So sue me

Bro Dean...thank you!

Someone's crusin' for a brusin'!

foreign languages are taught in every community college that I know of. Thats basically where I learned my poor spanish (but improving every day, as my wife speaks limited English right now).

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I speak both english and french fluently, because those before me did not totally assimilate. i learned both as a child, equally. my ancestors were not asked to assimilate. consider that.

now i'll wait for someone to shoot down my theory.
