My finacee already has her police certificates. They were issued by both the Federal and SECRETARIA DE SEGURANÇA PÚBLICA. They both told her that she had to go to the Cartório and have them stamp it.

She says that the certificates are official and not xeroxed. Why would she have to go to the Cartório? I am VERY nervous because the instructions specifically state "The certificates issued by “Cartório” or “Fórum” are NOT, repeat, NOT acceptable, in any circumstances".

She *just* recieved Package 4 today and our interview is on the 27th. I doubt there is time to have the certificates re-issued if they gave us the wrong ones...

Anybody have any knowledge on this????

Thanks!

Eric

(Sorry this is a cross post, but nobody has answered my other post and this is definately a time sensitive issue!)

This is normal procedure here in brazil... she must to do that .. is just to recognize "the firm " ... and she has to find out with them where are those cartorios .... because they specific ...for wich firm.. if she ask them they will give to her the adress .. and she does that in 2 seconds.. is very quick !!!

You tell her the forms aren't really OFFICIAL until they have they have the "firma reconhecida" which means the cartório will check the signature on the forms and match it with their files to prove it's a real signature. She'll have to pay a little fee for each on and each form has their own cartório, they should have given her the address for each. This is standard procedure.

WOW!!

This complete new for me.

didn´t read anywhere in my instructions about to have this police certificate and, with the certificates in hands, go to a notary´s office.

I was going to the interview without just with the police certificates.

But there is a few notary´s office here in my city. I will need to go to all places to discover where is the sign of the police person?

The certificates issued by “Cartório” or “Fórum” are NOT, repeat, NOT acceptable, in any circumstances

When I had mine done I had to take with me to the interview. The rules might have changed and this website is not updated with the new rules. I'd call the Rio consulate and ask them.

yea I only thought she needs to take them to the consulate. I'll have her ask. It's good to know about the notary though, I don't remember reading that before as necessary.

So there is a specific notary in each town just for the police report?

Worst case scenario...there are notaries at the consulate.

We didn't need hubby's certificates notarized when we did this last year.
