Did anyone here successfully import a diesel (or regular gasoline) car to the US?

If you could share your experience (cost of shipping/taxes/customs requirements and regulations) or if you could point me to where I could find this information from,

your help will be deeply appreciated!

I looked into it and decided against taking my car to the US. Too expensive because you will end up having to get the car modified according to US requirements. Also the emission standards are different.

Aaah! I see, having the car modified would be costly indeed...

Thank you!

Curious how much would it cost to ship or transport? Price range?

Well back in Germany I had friends in the military.

One car was free for them to take home and another one would of been around 1500 Dollars.

This was not a military discount or anything like that.

It might even depend on each country with the shipping costs

The cars in Germany leave "Bremer Hafen" and go all the way to the US.

I would just sell any car I have in my homecountry and just buy a new one in the US.

shipping is the easy part and not very expensive. It's the modifications, registration etc in US that gets you... I have a friend who ended up having to pay over $10,000 to take his car to the US. Also consider that the exact same model may not be available on the US market. If you have an accident or need a replacement part that could get very expensive because the part would have to be special ordered.
