I know topics of driving experiences have been posted so many times before but I still want to share mine with you guys...

How many of you guys have actually had your fiance/spouse to teach you how to drive and then ended up having a fight/BIG fight?

Well...yesterday was a nice day...sunny and warm out so my husband and I decided to start my driving lessons on the country road again...

I had never driven before I moved here so it's understanding that my driving is terrible, right?

My turning is terrible, I admit. I still can't drive on a completely straight line, and my stopping is alright, not so bad.

well my driving yesterday just triggered hubby's anger problem and he just wouldn't stop yelling at me the whole time...so I had enough and I just stopped the car and told him fXck it...I just go back to HK so I will never have to drive again...so here we go we started a big fight again...sigh....

I know I need to drive so I can be independent... so I called my mother-in-law yesterday, and she's going to teach me drive today...

God please help me I jsut want to have a happy weekend..I don;t want no more fights(or a car wreck.. )

pray for me guys..would ya?

I just wanted to share my husband's and mine experience. I thought I would be more than a great teacher to show him how to drive. I did teach my daughter many years ago so it should be fine. My husband is from Morocco and has never driven. He was going to take driver's ed over there but I thought he could save the money and I would show him how (as they drive crazy in Morocco, lol). Any way, it became awful right away. He tried so hard but I guess I was just too nervous and was afraid of an accident, hurting us, our car or someone else). My daughter said she would show him but the same thing. So we paid for a driving school here. I will tell you the money was well spent and his driving is so much improved. The driving school is only for 8 hours for 2 hours for 4 days but the man who taught him is paid to do this; has the ability to stop the car and the car isn't mine. My husband is so much more confident and will take the driving part of his license next Saturday. He has already passed the written part. If your mother-in-law is too nervous, try the driving schools in your area. That was the best investment we ever made. Good Luck!

... my ex taught me to drive a stick, and I have to say:

NEVER let your SO teach you to drive... there are too many emotions that get involved, and it's not a fun experience at all, especially when you're sitting there trying to do something and he's yelling at you.

If your Mother in Law is a very patient woman, then I'd go with her for a bit, just to get more used to the way a car handles, but it would be helpful to have professional driving instruction.

When I was first learing to drive, my mom would have me practice in empty parking lots, but it wasn't until I signed up for a driving school that I began to feel confident about my driving abilities.

When I did it, about 10 years ago... it was about $180 for the course. There wasn't any bookwork required, just read the driving manual for my state. But my instructor would come to my house two times a week with the "student driver" car (the one that has two steering wheels and a brake on the passenger side) and pick me up and I'd drive where he said to.

Oh good times....

I have to learn how to drive too - where I am now in the city, there's no need for me to, however when I live where FH is I have no choice... it's just miles and miles of corn.

A bit nervous but there's nothing to hit, not even a cow! Plus there's roadkill everywhere so I know I wouldn't be the only one!

I am here in Noblesville Indiana and I think I paid $285 for a 30 hours classroom study and 6 hours on the road lesson.

Check this out:

It was last year when I decided to enrol because my hubby gave up on me. Now I can go to the nearest store without asking him to drive me.

i am enrolled in a driving school. no classroom lessons for me because they said i already passed the wirtten test and i should be old enough to know. only minors are required to have classroom lectures anyway.on my 8th hour my instructor told me to call the DMV for a schedule for my driving test behind the wheel. He said he is confident that i will pass it...i hope and praying for that.yesterday was my 10th hour in driving and my instructor told me i can pass the test and no need for more teaching with him. my schedule is on the 27th.

there are times that i ask my husband to teach me but he is afraid but when i keep on pushing him we ended up in an argument. i told him i just need to practice even 10 mins a day and he never allowed me. good thing that my instructor is so patient with me. he even told me i ask more questions. he said its nice that i really want to learn how to drive the right way.

so good luck to you.

Tonight was the first time I ever got behind the wheel and I'd just like to say, if it wasn't for my husband being right there beside me and being as supportive and understanding as he was while guiding me through the steps, I think I'd have done a lot worse. This is my experience here:

Agree with what others have suggested here: learn with professional driving instructor. That's what I did back home when I first learned how to drive. Even after passing driving test and everything, my dad was still sooo nervous if I drove his car and he sat on the passenger seat. He kept making comments and told me to do it this way or that way and it just made me more nervous and we ended up rear-ending other car !! Good thing it was not a bad one, since I only drove 15 mph ... but still... So he decided to just let me learn by myself and everything went just fine. :)

I decided to learn how to drive before coming to the US, so I signed up for a 2-week driving course back home. I learned how to drive stick. When I got here, my husband taught me how to "drive the American way", and of course I drove his car w/c was automatic, he said it's better for the actual driving test. After getting my DL license, I taught him how to drive manual (the car he bought for me), since then he's been driving it.
