Dialing the U.S. Consulate in Auckland from outside of NZ

Hi all,

I'm a Canadian (living in Canada) and am being held up in the K1 process because I neglected to obtain a police clearance certificate from New Zealand. (I travelled and lived there 10 years ago). Apparently it's been requested but I have no way of following up with the Consulate as they 1. don't answer email queries regarding immigrant visas and 2. only post a 0900 number that can only be accessed from inside NZ.

Has anyone else had any experience with this??? The waiting and not knowing is driving me crazy.

Not sure about NZ per se... I guess you would want to call nearest NZ consulate in Canada.

Just for comparison... I'm an Aussie and lived in Italy long enough to need police check. Check the guides here on VJ... it will tell you how to go about getting police check from different countries. Important thing is: getting the police check from Italy had nothing to do with US or AUS Consulate/Embassy there. I actually went to ITALIAN consulate in Sydney and asked for it. They said: no problem, it will take 2-3 months. If you have someone there that can go in person and get it on your behalf... it will be much faster. So I asked a co-worker back in Italy and received it 2 weeks!

24 August '07 - RFE for I-485 (incomplete tax info sent!)

28 August '07 - NOA letters for AOS, EAD and AP

29 August '07 - Biometrics

AP - 12 October '07 - hard copy: multiple travel, valid 12 months

EAD - 18 October '07 - hard copy: valid from the date of 1st notice of card production

SSN - 30 October '07 (married name), applied Oct 18, same day I got my EAD

DL - 11 December '07 - driving test at DMV San Francisco. Yay! Now I can drive on the "wrong" side of the road!

21 November '07 - AOS Interview (Letter rec'd Oct 15) ----- A P P R O V E D ----- A P P R O V E D ----- A P P R O V E D -----

07 December '07 - GREENCARD IN MAIL

Peace and quiet... apply for removal of conditions - August 2009!
