Hello everyone!

I have a few questions about the DS-230. I am hoping that you can help me.

1. Do you have to fill out the DS-230 with all capitals letters? I have heard that you do.

2. On question #20 what do you put for the final date for your residence? My wife will be leaving Japan once she has her visa but we do not know the date. Can she put “present” here?

Thanks!!!

The instruction given never said to type in CAPS so we just typed it in small letters. Hope our DS-230 forms will be ok really. Gud luck to all here.

If you use the fillable ds230 in acrobat it will let you use all caps letter.

After you print out the sheet, you can just hand written the word Present in #20

We didn't use caps for ours - not a problem.

I also have a couple of questions regarding the DS 230.

We haven't received the information about it from the NVC yet, but can we already fill it out with the form you find on the internet or does it have to be a special one?

Who has to fill it out, me, the foreign spouse, or my husband, the petitioner?

In Number 15 I believe, it askes for information on parents, do they mean my parents or my husbands parents?

Yes, the downloaded internet forms are fine. It does not matter who fills it out, but it must be signed by the foreign alien spouse (beneficiary/visa applicant). Number 15 asks for the foreign alien spouse parents' information. DS 230 asks to provide information of the foreign alien spouse.

To all: You don't need to fill out the form with all CAPS.

Capital letters or not, what's important is the data and it's readable. Q#20, you can write PRESENT

Thank you all so much for your help.

I have two more little questions. It says on Part II not to sign it until told to do so by the consular officer, do I have to sign that part now before I send it to the NVC, or do I sign that at my interview in Frankfurt?

And is there anything else I need to send with the Immigrant Visa Application, like pictures or police records, or do I just need those for the interview in Frankfurt?

I wrote it all in Caps now, I just think it looks better.

You sign part 2 at the interview.

Frankfurt is an appointment post so you will need to send all your civil documents as well, if you visit this link and choose your consulate from the drop down list it will tell you everything you need to include:

hi,

All forms must be filled in CAPITAL LETTERS, blue or black ink should be used to fill out the forms. for the date you can write "PRESENT".

DS-230 is a form for the intending immigrant. So this form has to filled by the intending immigrant. All info regarding parents name is of the intending immigrant. Part 1 has to be signed and with it you have to attach alll the necessary documents and send it to NVC. Which documents to attach and what to send you can see from the Applicant Document Processing page which is located on APP DOC Processing .

I hope this helps.
