i live in a small town in illinois and know abut 11 ...no issue with them at all..

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I liked the poll and I certainly see its purpose. And dayum, some folks are crazy. The poll, if taken in a vacuum, asks if you see illegal immigration-related crimes as worse than wife beating. There really isn't any sort of "flaw" that would prevent anyone from answering it. I find it heartening that even on VJ, most people aren't entirely rabid and foaming at the mouth.

Agreed - that's how I read it. Still 7 people agreed with the statement that deporting the illegal immigrant was more important than jailing the wife-beater. Granted there's probably a bit more to their opinions than that but still....

I know plenty of illegal people. EWIs, overstays. Hang out with some socially.

Have you reported them to the authorities? If not, why not?

No, I haven't and wouldn't report my friends and acquaintances to the authorities. If I were the type of person to believe that it is my responsibility to report their lack of status to the authorities, I wouldn't associate with them socially.

So are you the type of person who makes a habit of turning a blind eye to wanton law-breaking?

I guess you don't appreciate the fact that we live in a civil society, since you are clearly not willing to do your part.

Dude, I answered your poll and commented. That's it. I thought the purpose of polls was to get an idea of where people stood on an issue, not to engage in another endless back and forth.

And I answered your first question because you asked politely.

I'm not going to respond to baiting. And I'm certainly not going to get my panties in a wad over this again.

Yeah, totally didn't get that VJ Troll.

Anywhoo...I think it's interesting how different people react to this issue. I work under a grant from the DOJ and a large part of the grant goes toward crime prevention in particular neighborhoods. One of the bike patrol/DARE coppers actually turned down doing intake for our volunteer income tax assistance program because he didn't want to deal with the illegal issue. He's one of those people who gets all red in the face about those pesky illegals, but he didn't want to be in the position to have to report people who couldn't provide SS#, which he's obligated to do as an officer. Even he, who is against illegal people in principle, couldn't bring himself to denounce people with families and little ones when he came across them in person.

It's a lot easier to hate and rage when the population remains nameless and faceless.

I agree completely. That said, there are people in this country who will take pleasure - approaching orgasmic - at reporting a strange looking family to the authorities and having them deported. They are the dangerous ones and they do exist.

And I'm sure one report is going to get ICE right on the case too!

Stop the fear mongering.
