This article is suggesting Hispanic equals pro-illegal immigration. That would be insulting to many of the law-abiding Hispanic Americans.

it suggests that many hispanics are tired of listening to the same ####### everyday.. some of these law abiding citizens probably once were illegals.. I know a few who became citizens with the amnesty.. and, just because they are citizens now, they won't think any different

I think one of the reasons this issue resonates with people so much is because they see it. What they see is a sudden and widespread change in the nature of their communities and like all change, this change is frightening. They may dress it up in noble terms (like 'they broke the law') but IMHO it's really about their communities changing in a manner they do not want - and did not ask for. It's racism, but it's more. It's about being cut out of the decision making process by the elites. They decided our communities would be the way our communities are turning out to be, we didn't get to decide that. So while the racism element does exist (they are a 'visible' minority), the larger issue really is of control. Who controls our communities, and by extension our destinies? Do we? Or do the powers that be?

This issue has the potential to be a real populist firestorm.

Race can't be discussed separately with his. The venom of the "anti-illegals" can not be explained by an impassionate love for the law.

so lemme see if i can get this straight: someone saying illegals are hispanic is bad. unless one is hispanic, then that's ok.

it's odd that i cannot think of a single person against illegal immigration on vj that has stated it's a race issue but instead each and every one of them has stated it is an issue of the law. i believe the real racism is apparent.

So you're saying that even once illegals, who later become citizens, will always side with the law-breakers against law-abiding Americans just because they look like them? I don't see how they will get very far with this mentality in the long run. America's NOT going for it.

Its not the best written article - but I didn't pick that up in my reading.

There's no doubt that next year, when issues of interest to 17 million Latino voters are surveyed again, immigration will climb up in the rankings. And that doesn't mean that everyone will be in favor of open borders or blanket amnesty or sanctuary cities or any other scary code words. (As if maintaining the status quo weren't a form of amnesty.)

Racists seldom admit it.

so if you don't admit it, can we assume you are a racist then?

Well I did.

Fair enough - just curious which part of it you feel expressed that opinion.

The 7 illegal alien amnesties that have been passed over the last 20 years never should have been allowed to happen and there should be no more amnesties in the future. Amnesty #1 in 1986 is the root cause of the bloody mess we have today.

Law abiding illegals? Talk about an oxymoron!

they don't side, but they feel simpathy for them, they pity the illegals, they understand them, rather than 'i don't give a damn about them'.. hell, even latinos who are against amnesties feel bad for them, you can't stop feeling related to people from your own country just because you're a USC.. not everybody buys that bs of doing what's right 'FOR SOVEREIGNITY' and for 'THE RESPECT OF THE LAW'.. family, friends, and personal interests are first for many other people

and.. 'America's not going for it'.. remember those USC latinos ARE America too..
