One question - when you quoted that "ethically & morally bankrupt" post in the thread the other day - didn't you say you saved it as a bookmark?

why don'tcha go look for that thread and see ;)

Well I did and you did. I'm just wondering why a bookmark to a post in a live database would show my old username listed over the post. When I clicked on the thread link next to the post it listed the author as Number 6 (as it would), not Fishdude. Are you sure you haven't been saving this stuff offline?

well that will just have to remain a mystery to you, won't it?

Having some idea of how the forum software works - automatically updating a user name change throughout all of the posts ever made under that account I'm happy with a shrewd guess ;)

Well on the first page alone I'd say Drew and Tik managed it pretty well. VJ Troll did a good job too - until that race card comment was tossed into the mix.

.

are you trying to say that the "race card" was what provoked this?

Certainly not - but I do think it was a pretty cheap reply to what was a good point.

Well there's discussing it without emotion and letting emotion rule the discussion. You don't think that there is a middle-ground?

You are familiar with VJ, no?

Joking aside, not when it comes to (illegal) immgration on this site, nope.

I think plenty of people have managed to discuss this topic without anger getting the better of them.

lemme guess - you? And maybe Purple?

People get impassioned about all kinds of things - including politics and religion and yet are able to have civil discussion even when they disagree. Just because we have a direct personal connection to the subject matter - it doesn't mean that the thing can't be talked about without people frothing at the mouth.

I think VJ Troll's poll speaks volumes.

First page - we are now on page 17. Hardly comendable.

vj troll threw out the comment about it being racism, i called him on it and then painted him into a corner. you'll note he stopped replying after he got his feet nailed to the floor - something you've yet to learn.

He said racism was a part of it, not the entirety of it. It was also a small part of the argument he was making. Either way I don't think that was an unreasonable comment.

Throw the race card, then back peddle on it as though it was nothing! FCKING GREAT!

Well this was the post - Charles "called" the race card on. I didn't read it as a comment relating to people specifically on this forum - or indeed as a general comment on everyone else. The phrase "visible minority" is not unrealistic. Is it?

I think one of the reasons this issue resonates with people so much is because they see it. What they see is a sudden and widespread change in the nature of their communities and like all change, this change is frightening. They may dress it up in noble terms (like 'they broke the law') but IMHO it's really about their communities changing in a manner they do not want - and did not ask for. It's racism, but it's more. It's about being cut out of the decision making process by the elites. They decided our communities would be the way our communities are turning out to be, we didn't get to decide that. So while the racism element does exist (they are a 'visible' minority), the larger issue really is of control. Who controls our communities, and by extension our destinies? Do we? Or do the powers that be?

This issue has the potential to be a real populist firestorm.

oh brother  the race card has been played already.

race_card.gif

Race can't be discussed separately with his. The venom of the "anti-illegals" can not be explained by an impassionate love for the law.

Statistically....it's the "latinos"....which, let's face it....is more those coming from the country of Mexico than any other latin background.....who are draining the system and fighting for rights they technically don't have. I'm all for immigration, and I'm all for the system being revamped....but I'm also all for people having to do it right, regardless of which country they come from. Most illegals, however, are just smart enough to keep their mouths shut and do what they need to do.

It wasn't unreasonable? A cartoon picture being used to dismiss an entire argument on the basis of a single word in the text. It wasn't even the focus of his argument.

BTW - As far as personal dislike goes Charles - I've taken the liberty of reporting your baiting on the other page. Feel free to forward the contents of your Photobucket, Word Document or other off-forum files to the mods - let them sort it out.

you know ... it would be really nice ... to have the quote header to the post ... what's the deal with omitting it ??

I asked this to be remedied earlier with PH ... and now you .... there is a pattern developing ... very lame.

Quick quoting on my part - nothing sinister or untoward.

Original quote is on the first page of the thread.
