Actually, our Wisconsin winters are not that bad. I remember as a child getting tons of snow and having snow by Halloween. Not anymore - in the last 20 years we have seen more and more mild temperatures. Ten years ago, we used to have a month to 6 weeks of below zero weather, but in recent years, it's only been a month or less. And we don't see the snow that we used to either. Wisconsin is a great place to live!

I am happy to hear that because so far everybody here in WI told me ...you don't know our winters ...is very very very very cold , so I am waiting to see that already is cold for me this weather because where in my country where I live the coldest weather was around 60 degrees.

Good luck in your K1 visa !!!

I'm in WI, too. Only 20 miles east of the MN/WI border, though.

Did AOS in the St. Paul/MN office - very nice, friendly officer, interview was short, more like a chat, very positive experience.

Same for the SSA office in Eau Claire, WI. Got my SSN after manual verification of status (took about 4 weeks), then changed my name and got the new one within two weeks or so - also no problems whatsoever.

I was able to just exchange my German drivers license for the WI one, although I had to give up my German license when the WI license was ready. I was told this is possible in WI for Germans and Canadians. They also told me that the German license will be sent back to Germany, where I will be able to just pick it up again if my husband and I decide to reside in Germany at some point.

I'd better not comment on the winters, I think... :P

Good luck with the VJ, and adjusting to America's Dairlyland!

Conditional Permanent Resident since September 20, 2006

I am extraordinarily patient,

provided I get my own way in the end!

I'm in Madison, we'll be starting the AOS et. al. within the month. Drivers Licensing has changed since April of 2007 when the "Real ID Act" went into effect. In short...no WI. D.L. or WI State ID can be issued until you possess an EAD or Green Card.

Winters....yes they can be tough, and depending on where you live the snowfall can be bad as well. We had a real mild winter last year until the middle of February or so, then we were blasted with sub-zero temps and a couple of weeks of heavy snowfall. Such is life on the "Frozen Tundra".

I heard it's been snowing up where I'm from (shore of Lake Superior). Been living out in AZ for the last 4 months. Today it was 87F. I'll miss the snow for Christmas, but won't when it hits April...or May.
