Iceyspots, thought if I post it in the "funny thread", you might miss it so I am telling you what I know about those prepaid cards.

If you send one make sure it is a mastercard or Visa. Mastercard even better as accepted more often in most countries. He can use it on any ATM or for debit card payment in any store that accepts credit/debit cards.

There is no charge to use the card, it's like using cash. Recharging them should be possible at most banks but your sweetheart should maybe ask his bank before if they do. Otherwise, there might be a possibility to charge it up online at the website of either mastercard or visacard.

Hope this helps. Keep your spirits high

hahaha... yeah.. the thread got eaten up into a black hole.. It ends up that I'm not going to send him a pre-paid debit card... I just wanted to bring another idea for those who have been waiting longer than usual.. and send money overseas with these bloodsucking services... I thought bringing up the idea for others may be useful so they don't keep getting hit with those huge percentage fees.

But actually, me and Yacine talked about it, and when he comes here, we are going to send one pre-paid debit card overseas in his father's name... because it's very hard to get a credit card in Algeria.. and every now and then his brother finds stuff he wants to purchase on the internet, but can't because he doesn't have a CC ! :D
