Police Certificate

Hello everyone.

Just got a NOA2 last Friday, and was wondering if it's time for my Fiancee to order the police report. How long does it usually take for it to be issued? She told me she has asked a friend and was told it can take a month.

Also, she has lived in 2 cities, Ivanovo and Fryazino, with the first being about 5-6 hour ride by bus from Moscow, and the second being a suburb of Moscow, about 40 min drive. As far as I understand she only needs 1 report, but with every city mentioned, so what is the procedure of getting it? Does she need to mention for them to put the city names on the report?

Can she get it in Moscow, as she spends most of the time there, or does she need to get it from 1/both of those cities?

What's the official name of the report in Russian?

Available. Russian law (MVD Order no. 965, dated November 1, 2001) mandates that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) provide police certificates both to Russian citizens and to foreigners who have lived or are living in Russia. The law states that in Russia, MVD offices must provide the certificate within 30 days. Those residing outside of Russia, both Russian citizens and non-citizens, may either delegate a Power-of-Attorney to apply for the certificate on their behalf in Russia, or apply directly to the Russian Consulate. Police certificates should note all names that the person has used in Russia, and should note the MVD branches in all locations that were queried.

So does this mean she has to specifically request for them to query MVD branches in those 2 cities? This is the part I don't understand, or how will they know to put those specific cities on the report?

The police reports need to be from the regional, provincial or state, city, or whatever that covers her city or two cities. I'm unaware if both of those cities fall under one jurisdictional coverage or two, but she should be able to find that out when she goes to obtain it. Usually, that starts with her visiting the largest police headquarters in her district and they'll instruct her on where to go from there.

Every region in Russia is different, so to say she needs to go to this place may be true in one city and completely wrong in another. Welcome to Russia.

Have her go ahead and get it now, it won't be too long before your interview comes up. A couple months, probably, and the police report will take about a month or so to get anyway. They say it's only good for six months but that's a bunch of balogna.

They should be able to help her out more when she goes to the police. If she tells them what it's for, chances are she isn't the first young lady to get one and they'll steer her in the right direction.

Yeah, the main one in Moscow usually does the trick for just about anything they may need because almost everything must be processed eventually by "the main one in Moscow." If she's fortunate enough to be near Moscow, you should have a relatively easy go for all of this. (And save a bunch of money without even switching your car insurance.)
