My husband has been self employed his entire life in the Philippines> he is in the process of his job search. I would like anyinput/resources on how to put together a good resume for him , how do i list the self emploment on the resume? Obviously here (USA)he will be working for someone else or a company until we build up our savings to make other plans, thank you so much

check out Monster.com or careerbuilder.com for resume sample, or google it. You can also have him join www.linkedin.com for job networking and job research. List all his education and special skills to entice probable employer. Good luck!

Whatever you do just make sure the name "JelloShotGirl" does not appear on the resume.

Make sure that his titles are comparable to the same types of jobs he is likely to have in the US. I've said it before: translate culturally, not literally. Check out books in your public library as to how to compose resumes for the North American job market. They might be quite different than the ones your hubby is used to.

This site was pretty helpful for us. It showcases different types of resumes with examples. It easy to figure out which type will better serve your husband. Len and Bren are right, be sure to "translate" his title, skills, etc. to US terms.

Also, its very important to redo his resume and cover letter for EACH job he applies to. It is an absolute pain, but you'll have better results. Make sure to use exact key words from the job posting in the very begining of the resume & cover letter. Its likely that the people who screen applications are not in your same field or even in the same department to which you are applying. It makes their job easier and gives you a better chance for an interview if you use the exact phrasing/language from the job announcement.
