Thank you, Lisa. I've got an early morning appt. :)

How did the appointment go, Steven?

The same question I want to ask.

I had gone to an Urgent Care facility Monday night, but the doc sent me home with just a prescription for nasal spray. The pain and swelling on the bridge of my nose had grown on Tuesday and then on early Wednesday morning, I was able to finally see my regular doctor. He was convinced I have an infection in my ethmoid sinus cavities. I started on Augmentin that morning and the swelling has gone down dramatically already. I'm relieved because it was so odd - started out as a sharp pain in one small point on the bone of my nose bridge. I think the extremely dry air contributed to it...the ethmoids are not a common area for infection but if they do dry out, it can create a vacuum.

I'm buying a humidfier for our room this weekend.

LOL...I used to wonder why my mom would get so many sinus troubles, but now :P I'm guessing that age does play into it as I'm getting older.

Do you use a humidifier? My dad used to irrigate his sinuses with warm salt water....he's had polyps surgically removed from his nasal passages twice.

yeah Steven , I do. Its funny, because, all I ever used to suffer with was migraines. I have had more ailments since I have been in Germany these past 3.5 years, then my whole lifetime at home in Oz. And yeah, I think age does come into play,..I just turned the big 40,..feel like in mid 20's most days, but sometimes, my aches tell me otherwise. Think it has a lot to do with climate too,..I grew up and spent the majority of my life in warmer climates too,..so, I truly believe that comes into play ,..

As we get older....we sometimes develop more allergies too which can trigger sinus problems. The sinus irrigation is an excellent way to prevent sinus problems. No med side effects and it's cheap. I'm glad you're feeling better Steven!!

Really glad you went to the Doc, sorry about the sinus problem, it sucks, its painful and we realise that our bodies are not the brick sh!thouses we thought they were.

and this is stupid question of the day, what or how do you irrigate your sinus? I really do want to know since I have such bad sinus problems.

I found this...

Irrigate your sinuses.

For 3,000 years, yoga practitioners have kept their sinuses healthy through the practice of sniffing a saltwater solution rapidly in and out of their nose at low pressure. Caution: Don't try this unless you have been taught how to do it. Fortunately, for those of us who aren't yogis, a Nasal and Sinus Irrigator will do this for you. The Hydro Pulse® Nasal / Sinus Irrigation System is so gentle that even five-year-olds use it.

An even simpler alternative is a Lavage irrigation bottle. Ideally, irrigation should be done using Ringer's solution, the solution used in hospitals for intravenous treatment, and sold over the counter in drugstores. Or you can use an isotonic saline solution (not too salty, just right) that does not contain benzalkonium. Benzalkonium is a preservative that can impair nasal function and kids complain that it burns. To make your own preservative-free saline solution, add one teaspoon of table salt to one pint of water.

If you're prone to sinus infections, I recommend irrigating your sinuses twice a day, especially during the cold winter months.

Ringer's solution, designed for irrigation use, is sold under the name Breathe-ease XL (it's also available as a nasal spray). To order the Hydro Pulse Nasal and Sinus Irrigator, a Lavage irrigation bottle or Breathe-ease products, visit the Web site:

With all of the uproar about MRSA, it's a good thing you got this checked out Steven, and that it's not anything worse.

This is the product I use...it's really gross but it makes you feel SO MUCH BETTER!

http://neilmed.com/

you put warm distilled water in a bottle with a prepackaged salt packet, and squirt it in your nose..tilt your head around to get it all over the sinuses...then blow it out your nose...it's NASTY. BUT FEELS SOOO GOOD!

Thanks Steven and GeordieLover for that info. I will look right into something like this for myself.

Get well soon Steven and a humidifier has really helped me the last few days, so make sure you get one asap.

Thank you. I've been looking at the reviews for different humidifiers...seems the quality and reliability vary greatly.
