There are a certain number of specific European holiday destinations which are pretty notorious for that sort of thing - Ibiza, Majorca, Faliraki - and a few other Greek islands. There was a big stink about Faliraki a couple of years ago after scandalous stories about what kids were getting up to over there came out in the papers. It had been going on for years of course - but as far as the tourism industry goes the local authorities in those places don't seem too keen on enforcing standards of behaviour, and you actually have whole streets of bars there where you can get (ridiculously) cheap drinks - a quid a shot / pint kind of thing.

Unlike the Oktoberfest which I was at last month, where the general atmosphere was pretty jovial (absolutely no fights - at least that I saw), you don't really see that in a lot of beach resorts in Spain or Greece.

Actually thats pretty much the reason why I tended to steer clear of places like that - don't understand why people's idea of a holiday involves little more than going somewhere hot and doing what you'd normally do on a weekend at home.

BTW Amsterdam is also a popular destination for a weekend bender (only an hour away by plane, and plane tickets for under 100 quid). Incidentally, a lot of the folks trotting around 'that' part of the city are Brits.
