Hello gain Wonder-full VJers,

Terribly sorry to bring such sad news to the surface...

I have called on all the gods, goddesses and spirits to send love and healing energy to my fiancé's father.

He had been diagnosed with esophagus cancer 2 -3 weeks ago and the latest tests have shown it is spreading all over.

He and his wife are on their way to a specialist in an Oncology Clinic in Texas.

I have asked them to also try alternative healing.

Does anyone have any information on an emergency visit in the middle of acquiring a K1?

This is a most challenging time...

Thank you.

you can visit as long as you bring a lot of proof of ties to Canada (I am assuming you are the Canadian) like mortage or lease papaers, letter from your employer etc....

but it will be up to the POE officer if he is going to let you through....

Go ahead and schedule the trip. If you are in Canadian or Canadian PR, you won't need a visa to enter the States. But as Marilyn suggested, bring papers with you to help prove you are returning (mortgage/lease, letter from employer that you have a job and are just taking a few days off, etc) so that the border patrol doesn't think you are a threat staying illegally.

Thanks for that, however, oops, the whole story is this:

I am Canadian.

And the last time I tried crossing the border (in January, before being engaged) driving to WA from BC, I got turned back because they suspected that I was not going to return and I could not convince them otherwise.

So I got flagged...although I was given the option that stated:

"voluntary withdrawal from visiting" blah blah...

So it is quite complicated for me.

Maybe I could ask the Montreal U.S. Consulate??

did you have proof of your return that time?? like mortgage or rental agreements?

the consulate wouldn't know anything.. you would have to contact the POE....

At the time I was living in a boat.

I work for myself.

I was driving.

sigh

This is why I came to Montreal in the Spring and got a an apartment with a lease!! although I still work for myself.

I am currently doing a project for a client in Vancouver.

Being a graphic designer (amongst other things), I can work from anywhere.

Suggestions??

Thanks.

The Consulate has nothing to do with the U.S. border patrol and it is the border patrol at the airport/land crossing that makes the decision. Besides the other stuff we suggested you bring, you could get a letter from your father-in-law's doctor advising of his ill health. Seems like a lot of work, but if you have the Dr. fax the letter to you, and you have the other items, it would be less than a day to pull it together.

As far as being self employed, my husband has the same issue when traveling to the U.S. The last trip was via land and we were together in the car. We didn't have any problems at all. We even had one of our dogs with us and border patrol didn't even request to see the required docs for the dog. Anyway, my husband is coming to the U.S. to visit in December and we are scratching our heads about what he can bring as proof of visit. So far, all he can bring is current/recent invoices to his clients. He doesn't even have his name on a lease anymore since he moved in with his parents until the U.S. immigration stuff is completed, so he might have to get a letter from his current client saying that he is still working for him and an expected future end date or something.

I know that your situation is not like mine, I have a I-601, so I will tell you what I did when Sharon's father passed on. I asked the POE Officer at the airport in Ottawa what was required of me to enter the States, all I was required to have were a passport, the documentation reguarding the I-601 and a letter from Sharon's Father's doctor stating the he had passed on and with all that I would be granted a 14 day pardon to attend the funeral. With the price of airline tickets as they were I decided to take a buss and called the Peace bridge POE and asked them the same as I did at the airport and was told the same thing except they gave me 7 days.

Since everything was prearranged I was not required to carry all the paper work others have mentioned above regarding having ties in Canada.

Their way may be quicker than mine since my way took about 2 hour of filling paperwork at the border to get the documentation required, the peoples above may be quicker I don't know I haven't tried their way, all I will say is that my way guarenteed my passage.

Hello Fellow VJers,

AN UPDATE:

I got my future father inlaw's doctor to write a letter, and I composed a letter with a few friends' assistance, and emailed both of these to the Montreal U.S. Consulate on November 27th.

Then my honey met his congressman's assistant (a very funny story actually, the sequence of events that had to happen for this to happen), and told him our entire story. Oh well, obviously he made an impression because very soon after the assistant wrote the letter and had it signed by the congressman and emailed it to the consulate. I believe it was emailed on Monday, December 3rd.

Well, yesterday I came home and found my inbox with an email from the consulate.

My dear friend Operator Number Five had emailed me the following:

Subject: Your K1 Interview

Ms. ioioio, I have received your K1 fiancé visa paperwork and the consular officer has reviewed and accepted your request for an expedited visa interview based on the circumstances you provided. An appointment letter is being mailed to you showing a date of December 21, 2007 at 8:00am. Please bring with you all your original documents along with a photocopy; your passport, a letter from your fiancé stating that he is still free and willing to marry you within 90 days of your legal entry to the US; your medical and the MRV visa fee of $100.00 US dollars to pay for your application.

The letter we mailed will give you further information.

Regards,

Operator 5

I had let go of any hope that this would happen, and of course it did.

What I have learnt in my life, and I get confirmation time and again, is the more you hang on to something tightly the more it will not work.

Those damn expectations.

Let go and soar.

Ha!

I am happy and I am sad.

I am nervous and I am calm.

It is a strange time in life.

As usual.

The Solstice.

How perfect!

:star: :star: :star:

I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you waiting couples for your interview dates in Montreal a huge good luck.

I am thinking of you too.

I may be the only person to show up there, finish the interview and then ask:

So tell me, why does it take so long to schedule an interview?

Not the actual interview so much as the making of the date....

(boggles my mind...sigh)

The first thing I want to do is go and visit with my inlaws.

Tic toc tic toc...it won't be too long now.
