This sounds a bit like a recurring problem I have at work. It's not laughter but rather personal phone calls. The girl works 6 hours a day and has several hours in the afternoon to take care of personal stuff but won't do it. It's either fighting for hours (no joke) with her husband or just gabbing away with friends. Our supervisor took Friday off and she decided that would be an optimal time to interview child care provides. I audited her work and she did about 15 minutes worth of work in 6 hours and out of 19 claims had 15 mistakes. It's so frustrating and I have brought this up with my supervisor several times. I emailed our supervisor again but doubt anything will happen. She'll talk to the girl and things will improve for a day or two but it'll go straight back into phone time.

I wouldn't be so upset about this if she was able to work and talk on the phone but she really can't. I'm the one who has to clean up her mess. This is why I am looking for a new job after 5 years with this company. I just cannot take it anymore and no one is willin to take care of the problem. So my company is losing out on a loyal hardworking employee because they won't take proper steps to remove someone who doesn't really care about her job. :(

I know how you feel, and I know it's not easy. Last week I went to my boss and informed her that some important reports will not be done by deadline, because it is impossible for me to concentrate in such conditions. I also told her that my work will suffer if nothing is done about her laugh and noise. Anyways, she took it sort of seriously, this woman got talked to by her boss, and it's been quiet for several days, but I honestly don't think it will last. Perhaps you can take the same approach that stuff will not be done. It's hard to tell if it would work, but things like this really blow my mind. Good luck.

The girl actually stayed put, off the phone and worked today. My boss and I talked and since this about the 900th time she has had to talk to her she is going to write her up. I feel like I'm being a snitch but I just can't work like that. The job I have is not a 40 hour a week job, I always do overtime and I don't mind helping out when needed. I do mind having to clean up after others because they won't focus.

Thank goodness I can come and vent here. :)

Great job for standing up for your self and not being a spineless wuss. Only individuals that require diaper changes are the ones that are to afraid to stand up, they rather shake in the corner!!:lol:

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I was thinking of looking for another job, but everyone is saying I should be in a job at least a year, cuz it doesn't look good on a resume.

I think the line you wrote above is your answer really. I personally wouldn't worry about what anyone else is telling you, you are obviously ready to move on to a new job.

Who cares what it looks like on your resume? I would venture to say that most people have at least 1 job of short duration on theirs. People change jobs all the time, no employer should be actually surprised by it, if they view it as a negative - well nothing you can do about that really.

Anyway, you are employed right now, so this is a good time to start looking at other jobs and see what is out there, go for a few interviews and then decide if you need to stick it out in the mad house for another 6 months.

agreed, jobhopping is passe, they don't use that term anymore, and if they do, they're obsolete... now it's called job adapability...

I recommend a product such as this. It muffles distracting noise and also provides privacy when discussing confidential or personal information on the phone or with someone else. When it's on, people outside your office or cubicle cannot make out what's being said.

Thank you so much, I'll give it a try, this looks like it could be great solution to this problem. Have you tried this product? I hope it does what they say, sounds too good to be true!
