I am set for my move, using one of those deals that they drop a container off and you fill it, then they drive it across the country for you.

I just found out the inside of container is 7' 10" long and my new couch that I refuse to sell cuz I love so much is 8' 1" long! :o

the dimensions of the container:

7'10" long

6'7" high

I suck at math. Would it be able to fit if I loaded it diagonally?

Oh wow that is only 3 inches short. Is there padding on the arms of the couch that might be squeezed 1 1/2 inch on both ends? Dang that's just too close. It might fit diagonally but that would depend on the heighth and width of the couch too. Hope you can figure something out.

Good luck

Bailey

I know it sucks because I already signed the contract. DUH! There is no padding, it is a low couch, and with all pillows and stuff removed it is just shy of that 8'1"

maybe i should look into shipping it separately. dang. everything else about this company, price, etc. turned out to be such a great deal - I signed based on the outside dimension of the container. :wacko:

Ok, here's the math:

7'10 = 94 inches

6'7 = 79 inches

Pythagora's Theorem: The square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

So...

Diagonal length^2 = 94^2 + 79^2 = 15,077 inches

Therefore, diagonal length = 122.8 inches = 10' 2", or there or thereabouts.

Bear in mind that doesn't take into account the height of the sofa, but yes, it should fit.

I'm not totally sure it this is correct, but I think if you look at the container as a triangle I figure the diagonal is a little over 10 ft.

94 inches x 79 inches

(94 x 94) + (79 x 79) = 15077

square root of 15077 is 122.7884 inches or 10.232 ft.

I'm better than I thought. LOL

I'm the *visual* type, I am better at pictures than numbers. So I made a to-scale model of the container, and the couch in Illustrator

couch.jpg

with the back of the couch's height taken into account, I was not going to make it! Panic ensued!! :o

Then I investigated and it seems the 3" high legs are removable (or at least, they spin around, so I assume I can remove them!)

Thanks math helpers!! This has also been a reality check that I'm going to need to get that 3rd container they suggested. ;)
