:help: Hi everyone ! I am doing paperwork for my Green card and I want to do SSN together so my question is if i donot have green card so SS officer will do SSN for me ? Thank you for helping . DND

There is absolutely no reason why you need to put a social security number on your AOS application and sorry, but the SSA will not issue you a social security number unless you have an EAD or a visa that allows you to accept employment.

We just went to the SS office today and they told us that if your visa doesn't expire for at least another month, then they will issue a SSN which will take about 2 weeks to get to you. If you have less than one month, or your visa has expired and you are waiting for the green card, you will have to wait until you get the EAD (which usually will come before the green card if you applied for it at the same time) and then you can take that to the SS office and they'll give you a SSN. Of course this could vary office to office, but this is what we were told.

My Timeline

K-1 Process:

3/30/07 - NOA 1

6/25/07 - NOA 2

8/30/07 - Interview

9/13/07 - US arrival date

AOS Process:

10/5/07 - Married

10/19/07 - AOS application sent (I-485, I-131, I-765)

3/7/08 - Interview - APPROVED

3/17/08 - Greencard arrives

Removal of Conditions:

01/12/10 - Removal of Conditions package sent

01/19/10 - NOA 1

02/11/10 - Biometrics

03/16/10 - Approved

It depends on the visa they have... if he is adjusting from a B2 for instance, they will not issue a social security number.

What visa do you have?

You might have to wait until after you file your AOS/EAD papers and recieve the EAD before you can get a SSN. You will need either the EAD or Greencard before you can get a SSN unless you arrived on a k1 visa and still have 2 weeks left before your I-94 runs out.
