That aircraft (C-5 Galaxy, I think) is taking off, not landing. :D

Actually, it's a C-17 Globemaster. Among other differences, the C-17 has winglets (upturned fins on the wingtips), while the C-5 doesn't.

And even while taking off, it's not normal to allow people on the runway. If an engine fails at a critical point in the takeoff roll, they'll slam on the brakes and abort the takeoff. Normally, they'll want to have plenty of available runway to get the plane stopped.

But the military sometimes does things in an expedient way that wouldn't go over in civilian aviation. And telephoto lenses can sometimes appear to compress distances, making things appear closer together than they are.

Upturned wingtips; missed that. I saw a Galaxy fly many years ago at an air display (years of being dragged to them as a child has made me love aircraft!) and did think to myself "how the bloody hell does that thing fly??"

I agree, that that photo is misleading and there is probably more to it than we realise. It's still taking off though. :D

The ones with Worth 1000 are definitely photoshopped as they run weekly photoshop contests. And often have some amazing stuff done.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
