Whenever I type the lower case G I GET an annoyinG pop up from GooGle. Anyone know how to Get rid of it before I throw the laptop out the frikkin' window??? Just happened. Was fine before then! :blink:

dump your cache and cookies. do you have a spyware scanner? if so run it.

Yep. Ad-Aware is pretty good at finding malware and spyware and it's free (standard version).

ad-aware blows. it was decent when it first came out, now it's not even worth running.

webroot spysweeper works better

Go to the internet options and clear everything out

it's not about what sites, it's the lame performance of ad-aware. i've run it and it don't find anything, run spysweeper and pestpatrol and they both pick up things ad-aware doesn't.

Hmmm...okay. I've been using Ad-Aware for about 6 years now and even my last IT guy recommended that install it on my work computer. CNet gives it a high rating.

I did have to use HijackThis one time because of some really malicious #######, but most of the spyware now is placed in your registry or in cookies...which Ad-Aware can effectively quarantine.

imo one of the major problems with it is it's not protecting anything until you run it. spysweeper is actively running, i don't have pestpatrol set to do that although it can be configured to do so (not a good idea to have both running at the same time ya know?).

i've had several instances where spysweeper catches something as soon as it hits the computer and it quarantines it. with ad-aware, you'll discover it only when you run the program, and by then who knows what may have gone on.

It was definitely the google desktop thing. I don't even know how it got on to my computer. :unsure:

I use ad-aware and love it. I have the others that I paid for but got rid of them because I don't like them running while I'm trying to do stuff since it slows me down bigtime.

I agree with you on that - I really hate having programs running in the background and especially when I'm running a powerful program like Maya, anti-spyware just chugs my computer. If you're careful, you can avoid some of the less scrupulous sites.
