canadian credit score in us ??

I have been in the USA for nearly 3 years, no job and have excellent credit rating,lol When I first moved down here, had my wife put me down as an authorized user and went from there (ie put down on certain bills as the primary) But that is good news that they will look at ur Cdn credit history

Well for one, I ain't no Albertan!! I'm from the home province of the 2007 Grey Cup Champs, Saskatchewan!! First few yrs, took a few classes, played a lot of hockey. Started to ref hockey last yr. But now going to school semi-full time for Registered Nursing. It is a full time schedule for many, but because I took some of the other required classes the past few yrs, it has lightened my load. I wil worry about a job May 2009 when I graduate. As a RN, pretty much gaurenteed a job.

You sure could. The penalities would be the same as if you were still a resident of Canada. Interest would continue to build up, and eventually your account would be sent to a credit collections agency.

Call the credit card company and make arrangements for payments. Just because it is not "easy" )ie: most of them are just too lazy) for a US credit company to look up doesn't mean that all of them won't. Your bad credit in Canada can still haunt you in the US. And if you ever decide to return to Canada to live, you'll be pretty much screwed if you leave that credit card un-paid.

I agree, although the idea of racking up my cards and running off is tempting you never know when these things will come back to haunt you. I would have to imagine that even though your good score won't transfer that if you were applying for a major credit card a defaulted credit card from a sister company may hinder your chances.

Not to mention future employers may do a credit check on you and take the extra step to find your Canadian credit score.

I just received my Canadian Amex Card today and am planning the move in mid October to the states. I'm currently awaiting the arrival of my SS card. What do I do to apply for an American Amex card? Do I have to wait until I have a U.S. address to apply for one?

I have a Capital One Mastercard and am considering not paying it off anymore. I was always making payments when I lived in Canada but now that I'm not allowed to work and they won't accept payments in American money from American banks I'm about to tell them to shove it. Could I get in trouble?

Of course - your unpaid debt will go to collection back in Canada and it get's reported that you've missed payments. The collection agency can hunt anybody down and you don't want that.

Where are you not allowed to work? You can send an international moeny order from the post office - so what if you can't make a payment at your bank.

if he doesn't live in canada anymore,how could they find him?Can they find him in USA via phone/address?Assuming none of his family members provide his USA address.

I was talking to a Realtor the other day and was told that most the times the background/credit check will INCLUDE your CND score. Which sucks cause I dont have good credit, between my parents not paying bills that were in my name cause their credit sucked(should have known better). then a stupid gym membership that was "cancelled" but continued to be taken out of my account which in turn made me in debt with my bank (which was my fault however it was a cancelled membership and yes i did call the gym and got the damn run around etc, banks fault for not closing the damn account when I told them too though!
