<opinion> Personally, I think that regardless of religion, the expectation that it's a "man's responsibility" to take care of his wife is pretty freaking backward. (and this is coming from someone who was raised in a religion where that was expcted of the men, and it was expected of the women to sit at home and squirt out babies)

I feel that if you are going to be spending the rest of your life with someone, you should be entering into a partnership. There are going to be times when one or the other person may not be able to work, and then the other person will help support in that case... but more often than not, both people wil be contributing financially, emotionally, and spiritually to the relationship as a whole. I didn't have that kind of partnership in my previous marriage, and it's something that I definitely want in my coming one.

I prefer to walk NEXT to my SO, not behind him.

And I refuse to be treated like property. </opinion>

Whether the OP is muslim or not thats her business and how she lives is also her business - some muslims are strict some are not it doesnt matter anyways this isnt the topic to have an indepth conversation. Dam it really infuriates me when muslims go on ranting about muslim this, muslim that - expecting others to agree with them. I am not a prejudice person, and my family members have also married into the muslim culture. BUt I have noticed alot of this lately and some muslims think they can convert you right of the bat. I have plenty of muslim female friends and none f them sound like this woman (thank god) and as i say 2 of my sisters are married to muslim men and even they share all the ups and downs of marraige and support each other. as I say this is the year 2006 grow with the times.

She is full of #######. Don't worry about it...I've sent money to Javier twice since he's been in Mexico and he's sent me money once (the one time was greater than the two amounts I sent him put together). But that's what a relationship is about-supporting each other in times of need and you cannot tell me with a straight face that Javier is lazy, he works his butt off from sunrise past sunset. Sometimes...it's not enough. I guess that concept is beyond Shon's grasp-I hope he doesn't call her one day mentioning that he's broke and hungry, because Shon surely won't help him. She'll tell him to get off his lazy butt and find a job. Now THAT'S love if I've ever seen it.
