Icey,

Of course there is NOTHING wrong with you sending your SO money to help out. That is what marriage is all about, sharing and working together to create a better life for the both of you. I can't believe how ignorant Shon is about real life. Real life is at times a struggle and you do what you can to get through it as well as you can. She's insulted me and many others by informing us that because we miss certain things about our own countries that we are ungrateful and we have no right to feel such things. Of course, her husband wont miss his family or home for one minute ever!!! (Sarcasm)

Regarding the money situation, I wonder if you could get a check issued in Algerian currency to send to him? I know you can do this in America for Pounds Sterling and you pay the fee at this end and there is no charge in the foreign country for paying it into the bank account. I don't know if this is even a possibility for your situation, but might be worth a look.

Regarding the Shon situation.....I thought it was illegal or going to be made illegal to sponsor so many people? I thought I read somewhere that you do or will get to only sponsor 1 spouse/fiance(e)? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Best wishes

Kate

This thread is unbelievable :( My only comment is this...people in glass houses should not throw rocks. We are all here for the same purpose. If someone chooses to send money to their partner that is their choice. It is true that the man must pay a dowry to marry a woman in muslim society, however the size of that dowry is what the BRIDE wants it to be. I'd also like to point out that in Middle Eastern Culture, its the man that should travel to woman to ask for her hand in Marriage. Since it's obvious that none of our fiances/husbands were able to do that then that means that Shonjaved also flew half way across the world for her man too.

In reading this thread, I could not help thinking how much Shonjaved pointed out her Dowry which is used if the marriage ends in divorce. Planning ahead? :lol:

I am not going to read the cat fight post--but instead I will comment on the original post of this thread.

Yeah Western Union and Banks charge too much, plus you have a federal tax when wire money overseas. Also such transaction are generating a file with the Patriot Act police--with that said.

What I ended up doing was starting a separate bank account for my wife and her family overseas. When we have extra cash we deposit our money in that account. My Mother-In-Law has the Visa/Debit card and she can withdraw the money from an ATM or Point-of-Purchase cash back register overseas. Depending on the department store, vendor, and brand/Bank ATM the fees vary for each transaction. But the fees for withdrawing money from an ATM are way Lower than what Western Union or a Bank Wire Transfer charges. Additionally an ATM is open 24 hours a day--whereas the Western Union and Bank branches are open 9 to 5 on normal business days.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Sorry, Icey, I came late to your party . . . I have been working on my taxes (darn, not having my SO here yet is messing this up . . . hard to file married without his SSN/ITIN, LOL, sure need that copy of his passport).

Anyway, basically what Artegal is saying is my solution. Opened an account at Citibank, sent SO the ATM/debit card for the account and I transfer money from my other account. ATMs are all over the place in Cairo so he has never had a problem getting money out.

Good Luck with getting this one figured out . . . Western Union fees S-U-C-K!!

Sweet Dreams everyone!

Ohh I just thought of something! Does Yacine have a bank account? I bank with Washington Mutual and they have a new free checking account which lets you have free international and domestic transfers! It's not as easy as Western Union, but hey its free!

maybe yours will. you dont know me either. btw, my husband is not mid-eastern!

Shonnjaved:

Hey, you're really a piece of work, I feel sorry for the guy. Why don't you knock it off? Take the hint, girl.

I've met a Pakistani woman here who was working full time and supporting her family, while the husband was studying and working part time. She had to make that sacrifice, at least temporarily, until her husband could graduate from medical school and make up for the years he couldn't help her financially. I know of another woman from Pakistan who sent money to her fiance back in Lahore. Then what?

Thanks God, there are better opinions outside.

(anyway, I'm not gonna start another fight on the stairs. just got here :whistle:)

I am not HER! I think all of you are a piece of work! you can find a building and knock yourself off the top.

I dont care. I dont seen money to no man. if thats your style work with it leave me the he11 alone!

if you have poo, fling it now

LMFAO!!!! Oh honey, I LOVE your sense of humour!!!! :lol:

.....must be a slow night at the booking desk....

Watch out for those fly-bys. They're killers.

:lol::lol::lol: I've missed your wit Becca... ;)

I think we all need to take up a collection and get shonnie a nice vibrator.

Maybe then she will calm down.

Oh h3ll...I'll just send her my plug n' play mega strength one...I won't be needing it in a month...my baby is coming home for good!!!!

Seriously....sheesh!!! One question and all this hullaballoo! As for sending money...that's a PERSONAL decision...and I dam well know if Shon innocently asked a question and was attacked this way she sure as h3ll wouldn't like it. Besides...any woman who's been bought three, oh wait...four times ain't got no right to be opening her mouth about anything. Just MY HUMBLE OPINION of course. :D

you can kiss my behind! Just MY HUMBLE OPINION of course

You are one sad exuse for a human. But the one I really feel sorry for is your husband. I only wonder if he knows what he is getting into with you. With an attitude like yours I can see you will only have pain and loneliness in your life. May God find a way to show you that there are other ways of thinking and living. You are on a path that will only bring you pain.

:lol: Flattery won't get you anywhere! I find it amusing that you think you have the right to throw punches at people but you have a problem when you are the target. Icy asked for advice...not your criticism or rudeness.

Shonjaved...you are the most freaking arrogant person I have seen on VJ. This thread 15 pages long in response to your rudeness...wake up and realize the error is your ways. By the way thanks for the geography lesson :rolleyes: I know where pakistan is located...but there are many cultural things that people in those regions share in common. What you don't seem to understand for some reason, is that this is a support forum. All she did was post a question asking for advice on how to send money. Keep your BS and rudeness to yourself if you have nothing valuble to offer which you often don't.
