Male, own a Glock .45 for defense and sport shooting, laws are too restrictive. The burden should be on the government to demonstrate why I should not be allowed to own/carry a gun, not the other way around. The focus should be placed on criminals who use guns, not on law-abiding citizens. They could start with disarming gang members...

brother scott..a 1st calls excellent weapon../ i plan on getting the 40 caliber model with the 30 round clip next year or two

30 Round clip? :o I didn't know they made clips that high? Wow!

it is a special automatic brother steve..like a uzi in a pistol..hold the trigger and the gun runs through the clip

Whoa, brother :o...when we decide to take over this country and make it communist, we're gonna need a lot of those.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Im female and i do have a gun card . But haven't found the gun i want to buy. Im thinking about a 38 or 45 . I want to shoot both of them befor i decide

Good idea. I like the .45 for its stopping power. Keeps someone who is essentially dead on his feet from still being able to charge at you and do you harm before he succombs.

A .45 seems a bit excessive. I've never heard a perpetrator continuously attacking someone who's firing at them with a gun, especially if you've already hit them...except in the movies.

What do most police officers use?

The officer who trained me carries a .45

Well, so far the majority of respondents don't have guns (72%) and a majority feel that gun laws are too lax (56%). One fifth of gun owners so far feel that gun laws are too restricting, compared to one eighth of non gun owners (if I've got my maths right). Only about half of all gun owners who have responded admit to actually liking them. The 2nd amendment is the top reason so far. Two thirds of gun owners cite protection. Two respondents own guns for other reasons, possibly to hold up a liquor store.

When I made this poll, I thought I would see a higher number for liking guns. To me anyway, a non-gun owner, that seems to be the elephant in the room (or is it a gorilla?) whenever gun threads are posted. I'd be curious to know, if anyone wishes to share, why you like guns, or conversely why you own a gun but don't like it.

that's reaching. i'm one of those who made that selection for the reason of war trophies - i'm in possession of my dad's war trophies from the vietnam war. so let's not cloud the issue with emotionalism.

If you want a .38 special get a .357 mag. A .357 mag will shoot .38 special, it will give you a little more flexibility with ammo.

I'm not sure I follow you. Have there been cases of a perpetrator continually attacking someone even after they've been shot by a smaller caliber weapon?

Officers in this area have been going to a larger caliber due to the Methamphitimine problem. The county I live has one of the worst meth problems in the state. I think its like 40% of those in county jail are meth addicts.

IIRC- SOF in Afganistan want to go back to the .45 because the 9mm wasn't stopping taliban forces that were chewing khat.

-FBI shoot out in Florida were offciers realized that .38 special and 9mm didn't cut it.

-North Hollywood bank robbery

No offense, but without some comprehensive study I have difficulty in believing that a .38 caliber bullet wouldn't stop anyone dead in their tracks.

9mm was the standard for law enforcement for a long time.

BTW, something that I just read - a 50% hit ratio is not uncommon among law enforcement. Perhaps accuracy has more to do with the issue than the caliber of the weapon?
