How do you know you've been touched? Can you influence one?

Hey All,

I'm relatively new to the site. We filed with the Vermont Service Center in June and like many are still waiting for our 2nd NOA. When I check our status on the US Immigration site I see nothing new. How do you know if and when you've been touched??? Does immigration send you an email?

I've read some postings from people who called and were touched that same day. Is it really possible to influence a touch? If so, please tell!

So, when you log in to check the status, in the field 'last update' you always see the date, if that date has changed, it means a "touch"

If, early on in your Visa Journey, you accept that the notion of touches is something that VJ'ers came up with to track action on your file (real or not), and that touches really don't mean anything to USCIS, you will be much better off. I don't mean that to be snotty, I mean that in a way to preserve your sanity.

I humbly suggest you read this and pay particular attention near the beginning where he talks about how "touches" are generated.
