Thanks, you guys !

Actually it was not quite as hard or expensive as I had thought it would be. I already had a pre-formed pond liner on hand, so all we needed to buy was the pump, hoses and filter, and of course the stuff to run the electric. We had a bunch of topsoil left over from our patio project, so we used that to backfill and landscape around the new pond.

Our pond is really pretty modest – it's a small one, only 4 ½ x 6 ½ feet by 18 inches deep with a small water fall. I have 2 water lilies and about a dozen marginal plants and floaters. I’m too afraid to take a risk and spend big bucks on fancy fish so I just put 12-cent feeder fish in there. I am still in the processing of planting in and around it -- I will try to take some more pics and post them.

Maintenance is pretty easy now that the pond's established. Other than feeding the fish once a day, I just take a minute or two to skim out any dead leaves or other detritus every few days, and rinse out the filter once a week.

So far the fish and plants seem happy, and we noticed a toad moved in last month. Last week, I found a jillion tadpoles in the water. We are also attracting some dragonflies. I added a couple solar lights, and it's very nice to sit by the pond at night, watching the reflections on the water.

I’m still learning… but enjoying it very much !

sister..i bet it looks great in the cool evening

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

And that's all i can remember... Oh, here's a tip for those that plant alot of tomatoes for example. It's a tip a coworker of my husband's gave us. He said that if you plan on planting alot of a certain thing, plant a few at a time in 2 wks intervals. That way, your tomatoes don't all become ripe at the same time and then u find urself having to throw some away bcz you had too many! Smart isn't it!?

That is a really good idea.. I will have to try that..

So far I have a bunch of tulips (all blooming or have bloomed or are about to bloom!) doing fairly well, I planted 2 rose bushes which seem to be doing alright  (thought one of them was dead at first but i guess not)... I planted strawberries but I dont think they took.. they were bare root in a box or something.. oh well otherwise i will get them in a flat and plant those instead! And I will be planting some tomatoes for sure and some watermelons.. yum!! We'll see how it all turns out...

We have solar powered accent lights, but the other week we came home and discovered 2 of them were missing! Discovered them like 2 minutes later at the neighbours across the trailer park street! Of all the nerve! Grr.. now we dont dare put them out again but i think i will do that today... Bleah evil neighbours!!

Anything new happening in anyones gardens?

We decided that they only way we would beat the evilness that is puncture vine, was to till up the yard and lay sod. Almost 400 pieces later it's looking pretty good!! I've realized I have a black thumb and tend to over water  but we're learning. I'll soon post some before and after pics.

Feel free to suggest your favorite gardening websites :)

I now have baby minnows :P And the goldfish aren't eating all of them. Must be about 100 in there, in several sizes.

The larger tadpoles have developed hind legs... but no sign of front legs yet.

The blue pickerel is blooming

Also this guy keeps hanging around...

Also have one with an electric blue tail... trying to get a photo of him.

Awesome!

The cat was eating something crunchy the other evening. What I saw looked a LOT like that last photo!

Well, I broke down. Another olive tree will be *so* nice. :) Oh, replaced the dead mugo pine with an unusual pine. And some odd succulants & an agave plant. Time for more photos! And I'll have to have a look at this blue pickerel--I don't know it, but it looks similar to ceanothis flowers but this in in your water feature?.... pretty!

Oh, and all the Spanish lavenders are in flower, the English is almost ready (harvested a huge bunch of flowers for a project) and the French are of course, sleeping in late. They keep us going in the summer tho :)

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo don't eat my red dragonfly :crying: Really I am a bit worried because I didn't see him since yesterday... :( I was hoping he would find a lady friend and make little red dragonflies.

Olives are wonderful trees  My husband has many of them growing at his family home. Bring on the photos !!! Also I would love to see your lavendars. I have a couple of plants... 2 different types but not sure of their proper botanical names.... I will try to take some pics and post. Only one type is blooming right now.

And yes the pickerel is in the pond... I have 2 of them growing in pots, each under an inch or two of water. They are spreading out very quickly. The leaves are pretty even just alone, and you also get the beautiful flower which is a very nice deep rich blue color.

The baby minnows are getting bigger and eating the same food I feed the goldfish. The goldfish eat a few of them now and then, but there are still quite a lot of babies left.

Also.... found a toad hanging out in the water tonight.... after it left I looked for eggs but didn't see any.

We are getting LOTS of tomatoes (romas, cherries, and big fat boys.) yellow squash, and a couple of eggplants every week. We cut enough black eyed peas to make a good pot full this week, and cut the first bell pepper today. The zucchini suddenly croaked... one day without warning the leaves just wilted and fell off.

Daylilies are putting on a show... I'll get some pics up this weekend.

Come on y'all.... I know you got pics too ! Bring 'em on !!!!!

Yes... it's a little "warm" here :P I live in South Texas.... San Antonio area.... early spring here is January and February.

We've had a severe drought this spring and I do very little supplemental watering in the xeriscaped areas of my yard.... maybe 2 times since January. But the daylilies planted there are so hardyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... here are a few specimens:

flowers0201tk.th.jpg

flowers0214nv.th.jpg

flowers0210ta.th.jpg

flowers0309jn.th.jpg

Also have some red cannas blooming away (they are getting a bit of water):

flowers0317hg.th.jpg

and hibiscus (getting regular water):

flowers0276yf.th.jpg

and caladiums (getting almost NO supplemental water):

flowers0259fd.th.jpg

and blue pumbago(getting almost NO supplemental water)

Come on y'alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll... show your gardens ! (I know in 6 weeks or so when all I have is a brown dried dessicated corpse of what used to be a lush tropical vegetable patch.... you will be showing off your fresh fat tomatoes............... )
