many orchids don't have a scent... only the more exotic... like the larger ones that only have one or two blooms at a time!

Thank you, sukie! We had to work hard to get the ground sort of level again; the slope, we just have to live with.

edit to add: meant to tell you, since you're in hot country there.. we used burlap bags around the roots of the clematis as a shade--it's done remarkably well and I agree with your earlier comment that they are worth the extra effort. We got an evergreen variety because we needed the folliage year-round, but of course we had to give up some options on flower color as a result.

Did someone say orchids???? You guys have me all fired up, now. When we were in Greece I got turned onto terrestrial orchids--I never knew they existed! There are over 70 varieties on Rodos & I found and identified 46 of them. I can't get any of the European ones here, but I've put some Chinese ones in the boggy back yard.

Here's a piccie of my favorite one from Greece. They are all designed to look like insects, so the bugs will come and make rumpy pumpy with the flower and do the pollinating. Ain't nature romantic?!

Today I went to my favorite Garden Center here in Dallas . . . Northhaven Gardens! Wow, the crowds were out! They were having the annual sale of Day Lilies by the local DFW Day Lily Organization. So there were lots of nice specialities available but I was too late for most of the ones I wanted. So I got two of those, then bought 5 of the other plain old ones available in the garden center's stock. I have had quite a bit of luck with these lilies so I wanted MORE, LOL. Also, to round out the flowering annuals: begonias, geraniums, dianthus, zinnias (lol, i forgot some already) then I had to add to vegetables a habanero pepper and eggplant.

still lots to do in the garden in the way of cleaning up too!

I'm always too lazy... Ah well, after school we'll be moving back out to humboldt. Bound to have interior gardens there...

This is a fantastic thread, Michelle love your garden, but then again I always was a sucker for the "greek" gardens.

I am going to need so much help with what I can grow in my Florida garden, that are Rottweiller resistant , think it will have to be Cacti, but if I can grow roses and clematis, they are my favs. Got a garden full of them here but I also have loads of pots because we cannot plant to much because of the dogs

Well... though I could start all over here on Kauai, it takes soooooo much time and a lot of money, and right now I'm just renting, so I will wait till we get our own home. Right now, my money is going for other expenses, that we ALL are inccuring in this process!

ohhhhhh. .I envy your tropicals! That will have to be my next project---when we move to Mexico or further south!

And I hear you on the expense. I was out yesterday tallying the damage from our weird winter and all I could do was remember the price I paid for every one of those dead sticks out there!

Ta munchkins I think with the Rotties that you're going to have a challenge! Cactus seems like a good idea, lol. Don't forget beautiful bouganvillia that you'll be able to have there.. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a clematis that can survive your new climate (isn't it hot for them in fla?).

When we move into a REAL house (not a sh*th*le) wit a real yard (not garbage) we're flying maman over to do our garden, because hers amazes me more than anythign in the world.
