Dear Visa Journey members,

Got the I-129F approved and the approval letter says about NVC processing with start. I am not sure what the next steps are and would your feedback please. CSC approved the petition after 4 months of wait. Fiancee is from Canada.

Here are my questions:

1) As the next step what I should look for?

2) How long does NVC take to proceed with the next step?

3) Does anyone have an idea about how long it takes from here to get the K1 visa for Canada?

Thanks.

Peter

This would be your next step:

1. Visit this URL:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide

Scroll down to: "What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):"

2. There's a waiting period anywhere from 3-5 weeks where your NOA2 will be sent to the NVC office. Once NVC receives your case they will normally send it out within a week to the Consulate of your finacee. Of course if you call NVC, they will tell you that it can take 4-6 weeks to mail the petition to the Consulate.

3. You may want to check the Regional section of the forum for Canada here to find out the timeframe it takes from NOA2 to get the Visa:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

Congratulations on your approval! :thumbs::thumbs:

,

it's like ur timeline says u dont have NOA1 before approval put me right if am wrong, the next step is for uscis to forward your case to NVC then NVC will assign a case number for u and send the petition to canada where ur fiancee reside, but to us embassy that has juridiction over his/her resident if ur fiancee live in eastern canada expect montreal if he/she lives in western canada expect vancouver that is only two embassy that handle k visa in canada.then the embassy will send packet 3 to ur fiancee which will include the checklist and medical appointment stuff, then ur fiancee will return that and later the embassy will send packet 4 which is interview appointment. i will imploy you to visit canada forum for info

I'm going to end up asking similar questions when my time comes unless I get it out of the way now, sorry to jump on your thread, but hope some of the info we learn will help you too

Should you start the process for the police reports as soon as you get word of NOA2 approval? Or should you wait for a packet? Also I guess you have to wait for the packet to do the medical exam, is it hard to schedule an appointment for this? What about all of the affidavit of support stuff, should that be done as soon as the NOA2 is sent out, or possibly even before?

Hope someone can :help:

Congrats on the approval  Its hard to say how long it will be at the NVC. Some are only there a few days while others seem to linger for weeks. The NVC assigns the case number and sends the packet to the embassy. You might get some information as far as wait times by looking at the immigration timelines at the top of the page.

This is dependent on the country and embassy. Some police certificates cannot be requested without the Packet 3 letter, and the expiration date of the police clearance should be kept in mind in case the embassy takes awhile to get your interview date. Medical examinations can also be dependent on whether a case number is needed; again, keep in mind that you shouldn't have the medical too early, since you'll want to have room to file for AOS as well within the one-year medical expiration date.

Affidavit of support stuff can be completed as long as there isn't a change in the petitioner/sponsor's income, ie. promotions and raises, etc.

Hey Drew and Tik,

Here are some answers from my Thailand experience, hope they apply to you as well:

1. I waited until I had the pkt 3 before getting the Police Report in Thailand. The police report is only good for 6 months. Once we went to BKK to get the police report, it took about 2-3 weeks for it to be mailed to my K1's house. There will be plenty of time between pkt 3 and the interview to get the Police Report.

2. Ya, wait for Pkt 3 to get the medical. The packet will have the medical forms in it, but Brumgard will also have those forms at the hospital. (Read my timeline...the pkt 3 mailed to my fiancee was garbage...I ended up downloading all forms and using those instead) We went to Brumgard <sp?> about 2 months before the interview. We arrived at 8am and were outta there easily before noon with the completed medical. If you need/want vaccines though, you might want to go about 6 weeks prior to the interview date, so you can get the first round innoculations and then come back a month later for the next round. Vaccines aren't required for the K1 Visa, but they are MUCH cheaper in Thailand vs. USA.

3. I think I did the affidavit of support early in the process. I remember that I sent a copy with our initial K1 petition (may not have been required at that time..can't remember...but sent it anyway), and I also took a certified copy to the interview as well.

Just a bit more information. In our case, the time from NA02 -> NVC -> BKK was about 5 weeks. Once the BKK Consulate had the information from NVC, it was about another month before we received our pkt 3. Then it was about a 2 month wait until pkt 4 and the interview date.

Peace...hope this helps!

Hey thanks MARK 'n' AAM. I have recently been approved. I will need this info as well. It is a good thing that my fiance is a registered nurse and she can do medical stuff in her clinic. But should she wait until the Pkt 3 as well?

Hello ThaiStyleUsa...and...CONGRATS on your approval.

Once you get the PKT 3 in the mail, you'll see there will be information inside stating where you need to go to complete your medical. I'm not sure where your fiancee works, but unless it is at one of the two hospitals listed in BKK, or the one listed in Chiang Mai, then she won't be able to complete the medical at her clinic. You can only see certain approved doctors at certain approved hospitals...

But to your question, ya...I would wait until about 1-2 months before the interview to get the medical (based upon whether or not you decide/need to get vaccinations). The medical is good for one year. Once you get to the United States, you will have to file for Adjustment of Status, and if the medical you take in Thailand is over one year old then you'll have to do another one...which is expensive in the US.

Peace,

Mark-N-AAm

Wow, thank you for the information, that was extremely helpful. I feel much less ambiguous about the post-NOA2 process now.

Im also approved as of today, Nov 9, 2007 and USCIS updated my statutus and approved my petition. So now what? My fiance is in the Philippines, and I dont know how long the US Consulate in Manila will take before any packets are sent. Anyone with experience in what to do and what I can do before interview time? This has probably been asked for petitioners who have fiance's in the Philippines, but Im still gonna ask, can I request my fiancee to get her NBI clearance and medical exams done before packets are sent? I havent yet filled out I-134 for the Avidavit of Support, when do I turn that in? My salary also decreased since I filled up my G-325A form (quit my 2nd job), but its still higher than the 125% poverty line, do I have to inform UCSIS about the salary change or just file it under I-134? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you.

Good luck to all...
