Police Cetification?

I just found out my fiance's K-1 petition was approved and just arrived at the NVC. The guidelines here say you can get a head start on getting the police certification, as it may take a few weeks. Does anyone know how my fiance can apply for this in Thailand? He lives far from Bangkok. Can he just call or mail information to Bangkok, and will that cover everywhere he has lived since the age of 16 (he's lived in 3 places in thailand since the age of 16.)

Is there an address or phone number to call, and what information will he need/what does he ask for? Also, is there a certain date he needs this by? Does this information need to be sent out with the checklist he'll receive or brought to the interview? I am pretty uncertain about this step in the process, so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the link, but I'm still confused about the police certification information. It doesn't list this step on the packet 3 or 4 list. Also, it says you have to wait 2 weeks to have them send to you, but they send "on the day you could have picked it up" -- I'm not sure what is meant by this statement.

Has anyone else been through this process in Thailand that can help me?

Thanks for posting this, I was going to end up asking the same question. Hopefully we find the answer.

Maybe your best option would be to have him call one of those numbers and see. Seems like they'll mail it to him.

It is my understanding that you must go to the main police station in BKK, which is close to the embassy. You must apply for the certificate in person. They will want to see a Thai ID card, passport, birth certificate, name change certificate, and I believe house registration papers.

I don't know. I'm beginning to think it's just one for every country the beneficiary has lived in. But that's another reason I asked the question. If anyone has any more information in regards to this, I'd be interested in hearing your response.

This is from Bangkok's US Embassy website:

"Q: Where can I get the required Thai Police Certificate?

Thai Police Certificates are required for all applicants age 16 or older. These certificates are available only from the following office:

Section 3, Sub-Division 2, General Staff Division

Special Branch, Royal Thai Police Department

Rama I Road

Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

Telephone: 66-2-205-2605"

I would call them (or have your SO call them) and ask them if it can be done via mail or fax. Rin lived in Bangkok, so she went there in person. I believe she just needed her ID and tabian baan (her housebook). She told them she needed a certificate to get a visa to the USA. They took her info, told her to come back in 10 days; they provided certificate (in English).

Good luck!

Thanks for sending this -- I finally found this on the consulate's page, too. He's going to call them. I had heard somewhere that he could possibly give samui police fingerprints & send everything to Bangkok, but can't find this link anymore. It seems such a shame that they would have citizens who live so far from Bangkok trek all the way over there to get the certificate, because of the time and expense. But oh well -- we will see what can be done, and if I find out anything new, I'll post it later.

my husband lived quite a distance from bangkok as well, he had to travel to bkk twice unfortunately. he phoned and was told that he must come in person to the main station in bkk. hopefully they make a change since as we all know that travelling to bkk can be a pain.

good luck to you all!

Getting the police report was somewhat of a pain for us as well. My K1 lived in Chiang Mai. So, we had to pay for flight to BKK etc.

At that time (about a year ago), you could only get your police report in BKK. I'm trying to remember...I know she had to take passport style fotos and her house registration papers, passport, etc. I think they also took her fingerprints while she was there (which is why this had to be done in person in BKK).

Even though it was inconvenient to get down to BKK, the police report was pretty to simple to get, once we were in BKK. We were in the police office for about an hour. They mailed the final report to her about 3 weeks later.
